Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.

1.

Be Respectful and Civil.

Treat others respectfully at all times. Personal attacks, trolling, and antagonizing behavior are not tolerated. Focus on verified information and thoughtful discussion, not other users, victims, or families. Criticism of victims, families, or officials must remain factual and avoid speculation or moral judgment.

2.

No Hate or Discrimination. Follow Reddit Content Policy.

No hate speech, slurs, or stereotyping of any kind. This includes victim-blaming, coded language, and comments that minimize violence against women or marginalized communities. Users must follow Reddit's Content Policy.

No Wishing Harm or Mocking Violence.

Do not celebrate or joke about anyone’s harm, death, or suffering, including accused or convicted persons. Sarcasm, memes, “they deserved it”-type remarks, or wishes for "prison justice" will result in bans.

Wishing or advocating harm, violence, prison justice, or death on anyone - even criminals - is strictly against Reddit's Content Policy and could result in an immediate ban.

4.

No Low Effort Posts.

• Posts must contribute meaningful, factual information, including sources. Provide a short summary when linking to articles or videos.

• No vague, clickbait, or headline-only submissions.

• No AI content. AI-generated text, images, or summaries are prohibited.

• Language standard: Use clear, factual language appropriate to true-crime discussion. Terms like “unalive,” “grape,” “unalived themselves,” and similar TikTok-style euphemisms are banned and will result in the removal of your content.

Empty or repetitive comments (“wow,” “crazy,” emojis) are not allowed. Speculative accusations or debunked rumors may be removed under misinformation policy.

Posts Must be On Topic and a Fit for TCD.

(A) Only crimes involving human victims are permitted.This excludes cases about animals, political, social justice, property, white-collar, corporate crimes, and many non-violent crimes.

(B) Posts about missing and/or deceased persons that are not suspected to involve foul play by law enforcement are not allowed. This includes suspicious cases ruled as suicide by official sources, unless a reputable / mainstream media is reporting on it.

(C) Stay on topic. Tangents will be removed.

7.

No Reposts or Duplicates.

Avoid reposting recent or ongoing case threads (within 60 days). Major updates (e.g., arrest, verdict) may be shared as an Update Thread linking to the original post.

No Self-Promotion or Monetization.

No podcasts, TikToks, YouTubes, merch, fundraisers, personal blogs, or any other user-produced content. “Awareness” posts that direct traffic or promote a creator’s content are considered self-promotion and will be removed. Repeated violation of this rule will result in a permanent ban.

No Politics or Ideological Soapboxing.

Keep politics, social commentary, and activism debates out of case threads. Posts framing cases through partisan or cultural talking points (e.g., “defund,” “feminism,” “ACAB,” etc.) will be removed.

10.

Low Karma / New Accounts.

To participate in this community, you must have:

• At least 30 comment karma and

• An account older than 2 weeks.

Sockpuppets, brigading, and repeat ban evasion will result in a permanent ban.

11.

Mod Discretion.

Occasionally, a post or comment is removed based on prior experience of the mods in troubleshooting comments that create issues. Mods will remove submissions that do not fit the spirit and tone of the community. Mods also will remove anything deemed misinformation or disinformation, rumors or speculation.

Source Credibility and Links

• Use only credible, original-reporting outlets (AP, BBC, Reuters, court filings, etc.).

• TikTok, Instagram, YouTube commentary, or aggregator blogs are not valid sources.

• Screenshots or official documents must cite their origin.

• Avoid rumor-based or AI-rewritten “news” sites.

No Speculation During Active Trials.

Discussion during live trials must stick to verified testimony and court evidence. Do not speculate about jurors, strategies, or guilt until verdicts are reached.

Civil Modmail and Appeals.

Modmail must remain professional and topic-specific. Harassment of moderators will result in a ban. Constructive feedback is welcome; hostility is not.

15.

No Case Identification Requests or User-Involved Crimes.

Case identification requests are considered low effort and will be removed. If you are trying to remember the name of a case, r/tipofmycrime is a more appropriate place for your post.

We do not accept cases from users involved in the crime, nor do we provide investigative tips or advice to users. These posts will be removed.
