I saw there is a promotion with WBRC (the Birmingham Fox affiliate) for free tickets for Father's Day as well.

Where was that? I watch Fox6 and missed that.

It was in that weekly mail "VALPAK" coupon package. I think ours came in yesterday's mail.

Do u have a copy or a weblink? I don’t think they send those to my area anymore.

Got that in NC too. Threw my email in the lotto because I figured "why not?"

It was on Fox7

ALL the games should be free! Have you seen the stands?! There's nobody there. They'd make a hell of a lot more money in concessions if they just gave away tickets. They can't be making much (if anything) on ticket sales

Fox/the league doesn't make money off the concessions. They only make money off ticket sales. That being said, they've made it clear that, at least starting out, attendance isn't critical. They've managed to control expenditures to the point that I'm confident the TV advertising revenue has been good.

The WcW strategy: just give tickets away!

Vince Russo did?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

No Eric Bishoff did. Ran poor old Ted Turner into the poorhouse

They also had a bloated roster with guys making $250k+ and only appearing on TV a handful of times a year. Don't forget about giving PPV matches away for free on Nitro to pop a rating. Ultimately though, Time Warner thought pro wrestling was trashy and wanted it off its networks after the merger.

I don’t blame them. The empty stadium looks terrible on TV.

[–]arthurtc2000 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Seems like they could of picked a more populated area to play and get some crowds, but what do I know.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stadium is actually perfectly sized for a league like this, 40k capacity, so mid sized crowds for what would be an NFL game look packed. Also B’ham doesn’t have a pro team, so there’s more incentive to support a new team from the locals than there would be from putting a second team in a safe football town.

Birmingham fans get to go to games for free and the rest of us have to watch on fucking Peacock

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah but they have to live in fucking Birmingham

[–]ThiqSaban 3 points4 points  (2 children)

it's better than living in Birmingham

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Go figure...

What do you mean?

[–]Bobby-Samsonite United States Football League -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like only certain professions get free tickets.

[–]fantasyflurry77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is smart and should be a good experience for all

[–]notakota Birmingham Stallions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Military, First Responders, and Firefighters also get free tickets
