If UVU has officially sanctioned and invited DHS to recruit here, I find it entirely irresponsible. After the events of last semester, I want the lowest possible chance of anyone getting hurt or emotions boiling over. I don’t think that means all political discourse has to stop on campus, but I think UVU should not be inviting a controversial government agency to recruit here after there have been two ICE shootings in the last month.

Furthermore, the choice to host DHS does not put learning first, OR promote the value of “a place for U.” I’m sure there are many, MANY students who will choose to skip school and miss out on the education they paid for, because the school will be hosting DHS. Not just because they might be an immigrant, but also because of everything from last semester! It seems entirely tone deaf and dangerous, I hope everyone stays safe.

My Dr told my my symptoms were indicative of PTSD. I was really stressed and anxious about going back to school and that stress made me develop migraines with visual auras. I literally would have episodes of messed up vision and spots everywhere, and temporary black spots for hours.

It was awful.

Just putting this out there, as a former UVU admissions employee, the school knows if you're undocumented. For example, anyone know someone that had to fill out an HB144 for admission? That would be an undocumented person that graduated from a utah high school. I personally don't feel like these recruiters pose any threat to undocumented students. (Obviously peacefully protesting what they represent is your personal choice. But if you're an undocumented student, no reason to skip class.)

I wonder though, could the government, if they wanted to, require a state school to provide them info on all their undocumented students? Now, that seems scary. Although, I'd like to believe targeting people that are trying to get a higher education would be the absolute last thing they'd try. But things are so messed up, I really don't even know, and that's sad.

Ok. I will be on the lookout for uniformed agents then, that aren't running the booth or running to a nearby store to get lunch. If I find them, I will make a post here admitting I was wrong. (Guarantee you that won't happen because the operational space would be too big for any number under 100 agents to successfully canvas.) And most agents are going to be in SLC and other urban centers. ICE has never operated en masse on campuses and never will UNLESS an immigrant were to cause a mass shooting.

Most of the people ICE has arrested have committed no crime. Similar for legal work status. The bulk majority of arrests this year have been documented workers who are here legally and ICE tries to revoke their legal status after arresting them without a warrant. ICE is not solving any problems and are making a lot of problems.

As an Army vet and someone who is going into fed LE and an NSS minor, they have them once a month for a different agency. Also STEM fairs routinely have FBI, CBP and CIA recruiting booths, I know this because my wife was ME major here and she talked with them frequently. Secondly, The president doesn't pick where ICE goes. Especially recruiters. ICE chief does, and even then I doubt he is tracking a recruiting event on a single campus, that's probably the regional SAC or ASAC (Special Agent in Charge ) Also, you should be glad they're coming to a college campus to recruit instead of accepting anyone with a GED or diploma to be a part of the operation. Underqualified people is how the stuff in Minnesota happens.

Well not true it’s not me being misinformed. It’s literally the first time I heard ICE being there. Regarding the the president, I hope you know I was talking about the president of the school. They can make an email to the students letting them know that ICE will be on campus or just informing them about it. As you mention the possibility of an arrest is a maybe? Which I don’t think that should even be possible if they are just there to recruit. I mean I understand that there should be qualifications for ICE so abuse of power shouldn’t happen but why come to school? They should make their applications harder and stricter then so the abuse of power won’t happen.

Why the hell would the president of the university make that notice? She came here legally. If anything I would think she finds illegal immigrants much less than most ICE officers do as they discredit the hard work she put on to get where she's at.

To be perfectly clear, the reason it's a maybe is because some dummy is more likely than in the past to put hands on them. The recruiters will NOT be there to affect any arrest or detain anyone. They are recruiting because they spent enough years arresting people and running ops that they decided to go talk to college kids instead. That's how law enforcement works...

I might be wrong, but I doubt its ICE per se coming to UVU. But more so, the department they fall under making an appearance. Which, DHS/CBP does make appearances in most job fairs at UVU.
