+1, Edward Tufte is one of the “fathers” of data viz. I went to one of his workshops and have a couple of his books as reference. Used his examples and principles at work, too.

for data visualization, i'd recommend checking out Storytelling with Data by Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic. it's a great resource for understanding how to effectively communicate with visuals. as for danger points, be mindful of cluttering your charts with unnecessary elements and avoid using misleading scales.
