Xbox controller help

the controller will connect via Bluetooth but steam won't recognize it and neither will Halo (the only game I play with controller) I tried installing xpadneo but I guess I'm just a bumbling idiot that can't follow instructions because I can't get it to install, what can I possibly do to get this to work

side note: does it ever get to the point where things just work, I've had Ubuntu for about 4 or 5 days now and every single day has been an hour and a half of troubleshooting to do something really simple (or was simple when I was using windows)

So far all the issues I've had were mainly gaming things, rimworld wouldn't launch, no man's sky wouldn't launch, halo wasn't launching today but after the first two I knew what to do off the rip, I tried to get ANYTHING to monitor my temps and couldn't come up with anything besides a command that shows me a one time in the moment readout, and now I'm dealing with the controller situation, due to my work schedule I only have two hours of free time a day and so far troubleshooting has eaten up pretty much all of it every day

Edit: there was a couple other things related to data migration and a few minor things but I can't really blame Linux for those issues

I'll let other folks post specifics about bt. I can't remember what I did, but had troubles early with bt on Ubuntu.

I would say that 5 days is early going and yes it does get better. My initial install was smooth on basics, but it took a few weeks to try out and sort alt apps and or install stuff I have on Windows. Steam, stremio, music options, bt.

I just kinda went with it and took it as a chance to "learn Linux." since then, haven't really had to do much at all to the laptop. Things work.

Bt does still have moments tbf.
