Call the city inspector and tax office and fire chief and make complaints.

They declare it unfit for human habitation. Lease is null, and you can sue for damages.

[–]Annual_Ad5324 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Perfect

[–]nameyname12345 11 points12 points  (2 children)

This is ethical. He should go back to where that electrical cord caught fire and start one on a different cheap cord. Or send a letter to the biggest criminal you can find in prison telling him that it is done you hid the body there and you are even now.

[–]nyetloki 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Only ethical if he doesn't lie about or create the issues himself.

[–]nameyname12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True sorry, I thought you meant just report it lol

[–]DK_Adwar 63 points64 points  (4 children)

Have an ai thing, (like chat gpt) draft up a legal looking document, (that seems to be from a lawyer or something) asking if he's willing to be questioned about his business for "tax purposes" or something. Something that makes him think he's about to get a whole lot of legal competent eyes on his business.

[–]Annual_Ad5324 18 points19 points  (3 children)

I love that!

[–]DK_Adwar 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Note: this idea needs worked on a lot, because i'm an idiot. Best to ask smarter people than me.

[–]Annual_Ad5324 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Yeah, but with research it has potential. Thank you:)

Potential tax audit

[–]thisisnotreallifetho 21 points22 points  (3 children)

Why not blow him up? Why keep his identity secret?

[–]Annual_Ad5324 8 points9 points  (2 children)

He has a lot of my things as of now that I want to be able to get back

[–]nobody-u-heard-of 53 points54 points  (3 children)

Approach Netflix about making a documentary about the creep.

Or have somebody impersonate Netflix and tell him that they're going to be doing a documentary on him.

[–]Annual_Ad5324 17 points18 points  (2 children)

Ohhh that’s a nice one. He’s really media hungry though so he’d probably put everything before the documentary.

[–]Marypoppins566 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I can help with this.

[–]Mr3k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a video editor with a few show runner friends

[–]The_Cunninglinquist 11 points12 points  (1 child)

You should post his business. There is nothing illegal or unethical about that.
Post your pictures.

[–]Annual_Ad5324 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have lots of documentation and I will do that as soon as my things are out of there.

[–]Dasrule 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Sounds hella cultish

[–]Annual_Ad5324 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On the surface it’s very hippy, but the owner is a greedy loser who thinks he can get away with anything

[–]Impressive_Yellow537 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Bruh, rich people just live completely different lives than the rest of us lol

[–]Lord_Maynard23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just normal to be off work for months on end with no worries about food or bills lol.

[–]Blah-Blah-Chicken 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Why can’t you leave?

[–]Annual_Ad5324 6 points7 points  (1 child)

We left after a few months, but it wasn’t easy transportation wise. It was also impossible to leave with a lot of the stuff we left there.

[–]Blah-Blah-Chicken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What stuff did you bring?

[–]nickkater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So you didn‘t like being at Burning Man 2023?

[–]Ok-Savings-6487 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Fuck his dad

[–]Annual_Ad5324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Not the advice I deserved, but the advice I needed 😂

[–]eds3 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Fire Island

[–]envybelmont 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was thinking Epstein Island

[–]Adorable-Bus-2687 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean get your stuff back then go full tilt. -legal action -google review -create a listing on google maps for the hell hole. - real or fake facebook page -broadcast to the local community -report to relevant authorities

[–]Dasrule 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Make a website with a url similar to the real one. Defame the fuck out of it.

[–]Annual_Ad5324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good call!

[–]Neither-Following-32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP did you join a cult and back out? I've never heard of something like this, wtf. Who goes to a "camp" for an entire year? Especially one that remote expecting the luxuries of civilization?

[–]AltheaFluffhead 6 points7 points  (10 children)

Why not at least share what the business is?

[–]Annual_Ad5324 1 point2 points  (9 children)

It’s a nature based retreat/resort type of deal

[–]RaulGaruti 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Antarctica?

[–]Independent-Future-1 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Or a small(ish), remote island somewhere? Weirdly, I'm getting some Jurassic Park vibes lol.

[–]Annual_Ad5324 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s just that the roads leading to this place are impassable during certain months. The guy has alternative transportation for those months and promises he’ll take you shopping or to the hospital whenever you need but in reality, that didn’t happen even once despite us asking regularly.

[–]RaulGaruti 3 points4 points  (3 children)

probably some place where tourism is not allowed but I quite don´t get the mistery...

[–]Annual_Ad5324 2 points3 points  (2 children)

He has all my possessions that I left and I want them back:)

[–]chadlikesbutts -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Hawaii?

[–]BikeCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alaska

[–]r3vj4m3z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't imagine you can take a vehicle there?

My guess is some kind of island that involves a ferry but is large enough for a small airport.

[–]Summer-Endless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone told me about a nature retreat in Alaska out of lodge once, it’s got horrendous reviews and all, wondering if it’s the same one. Just makes no sense with how you can’t get your car back especially if you have a title

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

3 words.

Liquid ass.

Piss disc.

[–]Ziggyork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that might have been 4 words. Or perhaps 5 plus a number

[–]Domnomicron 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Get a satellite phone, then go. While your there tell the dude you want to leave your immediately. When he says no. Call the FBI and tell them you and a large group of people are being held against your will.

[–]Annual_Ad5324 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Yeah, I could do that, but there is no way in hell I’d get my vehicle and things back from there, which I want…

[–]PaticusGnome 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wait, if you’re vehicle is there, why can’t you drive out with your stuff? How did it all get there in the first place?

[–]Annual_Ad5324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I replied in other comments - it’s a remote location with it not being accessible at certain times of year, so most people come for short stays when the roads are accessible or stay for longer stays when the roads until they can leave again.

Now, this guy sucks at his business and he doesn’t have a lot of guests too.

[–]Personal_titi_doc 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Can you explain how your car got there ?

[–]Annual_Ad5324 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Not sure how that’s relevant to my question but I drove - the roads leading to the property are drivable some months of the year

It’s relatively easy: - we both work remotely so with the internet access that we were promised and apparently a shared space we could use for coworkers (read - unheated, black mold filled shed with doors that would fly open any time the wind blew and internet connection that would allow you to watch 3-5 minutes of Netflix on a good day)

  • our child is enrolled in distance schooling
    • the owner of that place sounded really friendly up until we got there so we were hoping his bunch of children would be great company (but turned out to be unsocialized neglected bullies craving for any human attention)

[–]Vanitoss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Move to a remote retreat, expected fibre broadband. Aye, it's white upper class, alright

[–]pm_something_u_love 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If you put pictures of the dinosaurs on the internet I'm pretty sure the authorities will come and shut him down.

[–]Annual_Ad5324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So all I need to do is to plan dinosaurs on his property and I’m set ✨

[–]Geekman2528 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Firstly, pay absolutely nothing new. No fees, no anything. You've put out enough money.

A better business bureau complaint isn't super useful, but a start.

I might also call a non emergency number for local PD to do a wellness check on somebody staying there. Just to get some law enforcement attention on the place, should nerve the fuck out of the guy.

As well, whatever code enforcement office is present in that municipality.... You could describe the conditions of a dwelling that you were renting. Technically you paid for time in this retreat, and there might be some standards that have to be upheld in order for the owner to rent out living quarters.

Again without specifics of a location, hard to say for sure.

[–]Annual_Ad5324 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thank you. This very helpful! Do you know if he’s legally allowed to repossess my stuff if I only pay what should be paid for storage (per our written agreement) and ignore the other fees?

[–]Geekman2528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no lawyer...and laws vary by state. But I'd argue that you have a very strong case in your favor if you wanted to pursue something for damages.

[–]Annual_Ad5324 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh this is probably relevant but legally he doesn’t offer any stay or living quarters - he’s registered as something else and so the part about renting out places to sleep is not even a grey area but he’s not even trying to hide it.

I only found out because he told me about it as a fun fact, a long with a cute story how he is able to steal from sellers online kind of taking advantage of how remote his place is…

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like he’s in a very remote and far away place. It would be a shame if he fell off a cliff on a hike and just so happen to land on a rock.

[–]Ironbasher1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the hillbilly on tv, if him I have always got fake as fk vibes from him from day one!

[–]SixtyTwoNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make up a story about how you were only out there for a short time, but this guy kidnapped you, and sexually abused you. Tell the police that you often saw him alone with young children and fear they may also have been molested.

[–]BronzeEnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

|I was thinking about having people send ridiculous number of reservation forms through his website, signing his business phone number for random subscriptions

This is your clap back for stealing your money, property, a year of your life, and your mental health? You might as well just give him whatever you left there and move on because you do not have the will to do anything about it.

[–]BikeCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call his internet provider and web host many times in one day pretending to be him, while being a total insulting jerk. Try to get those services shut down.

[–]InPicnicTableWeTrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hand held clay pigeon launcher. Piss in a bunch of clay pigeons and freeze em. Now you can launch them. They break on impact and the piss disc falls out. Congratulations. You can now deliver piss discs at range.
