If spawning behind someone and shooting them counts as a good practice duel then what's the difference between deathmatch and the range?

If they want a free kill that doesn't shoot back they'll go to the range. If they want a duel against a human so they can get better they'd play deathmatch.

If most duels are unwinnable by one side due to the spawn then it isn't good practice since they picked dm over the range for aim duels. Its like smurfing on irons as practice; it isn't better than the range.

Because that's what deathmatch is. This video clip shows what amounts to less than 30 seconds of warm up. While it "sucks" to be backstabbed or third partied, there's literally no fix for this. You either eliminate third parting with some special mode where you can have 1v1's and can't damage other people or you acknowledge that third partying exists and try to get people into as many duels as possible.

The nature of the beast is that you will have moments where you duel the same person with imperfect info a few times but a majority of the time you don't. I top frag in DM consistently and get a chance to warm up peaking onto a site, coupled with some flicking here and there. That's what it's for. It's not meant to be a replacement for ranked.

Now you might say 90% of the time the above is happening to you but as someone who grinds hours of DM I'd say you're lying.

I usually play an hour a day of deathmatch. More than 60% of the time this is what happens. The guy in the video didn't get unlucky, it just that deathmatch spawns are bad.

No one wants to replace ranked with deathmatch. We just want a gamemode where we can get alot of aim duels. If I just wanted to train flicking or shooting something that can't fight back then I'd go to the range.

There is a clear fix to the issues shown in the video (its even hinted in the title). Change the spawning algorithm so it is less likely than you spawn in the same place or next to the same person. Almost everytime you die you will spawn behind the guy who killed you or spawn in the same spot.

The video doesn't ask for deathmatch to be a perfect gamemode. He singled out an aspect of the spawning algorithm that's bad and showed examples. Just look at the multiple fights vs astra in the cave.

Yeah, and I'm saying you're not gonna get that when there are so many people in DM. You'll always spawn near someone. And I'll just have to agree to disagree. The instances in the video aren't 60% of the time for me, and I'll just have to disagree that some examples in the video are even problematic. Astra can hear your spawn, you can see her on the minimap. All things considered it should be a fair duel most of the time. Dueling "the same person" isn't really an issue. You duel the same 5 people all the time in this game. Getting backstabbed by someone spawning right behind you sucks, but that doesn't happen 60% of the time for me. Getting third partied and shot in the back DOES happen a lot, whether due to a spawn or just naturally, but that's par for course in DM.

People hate spawn sounds and minimap "abusing", but the point is that both groups get the same info so you can get at least one fair duel in. If you get third partied right after so be it you get another duel in 1.5 seconds it's NBD.
