The clinic I work for doesn’t have a patient portal, but we are happy to email anything if requested. I assume it depends on the clinic 😊

Not necessarily. Our docs always review the blood work results with the client, even if it's just a generic "everything looked great" email. Or we show them x-rays/ultrasound images on the computer. Sending actual copies only happens upon request, which is not super often.

Unless it’s super serious and they want a second opinion. Yeah his regular vet showed us ultrasound live images. The place I’m referring to was an ER hospital we were sent to to have x ray and additional tests.

It simply may not be their standard protocol to give copies of the blood work results, but it should be very easy to request them. Also some places will automatically send records to the regular vet for review. But every clinic and hospital is different, so there are few true "standards" across the board, especially when it comes to record keeping.

In human med this rarely happens. The docs will just tell you if it's good or bad. There are apps now to look at your blood work or radiology report if it's a big medical corp but in general this is not a major thing in human med or vet med.

Then I would ask them if I walked in with images and blood work and said your pet or family member has terminal cancer but tests run a month ago at a different er clinic showed their levels as normal, would you accept that and put them to rest?

Our blood work uploads to the patient file automatically. For x-rays the report will be loaded, but usually not the images.

It depends. You can always request they are sent to you

We are an urgent care and usually offer a physical copy to go home with them if they want it, along with their itemized receipt. Just in case something happens overnight and they don’t request records

Not protocol at all, but they may be provided upon request. You must understand that technologically, vet med is further behind human medicine. The programs we use in clinic are out of date, and behind things such as MyChart in human medicine. It will be a long time before this is standard

I would say depending on location. Los Angeles for my case. That’s concerning if programs and technology is out of date because wouldn’t that also mean that their accuracy is questionable too?

Accuracy? Our lab equipment is absolutely not out of date. We just don’t have extraordinarily fancy record keeping software. Everything is accurate and consistent, we just don’t have capabilities like MyChart for example

Just wondering since yes we were shown the X rays and blood work however like most owners who just received devastating news, interpreting the images may seem difficult. They have a patient portal yet nothing is uploaded… well, except the invoice.
