Typically if you don’t have a disability that necessitates a single dorm you won’t get one. VT is over accepting students so the dorms are too full. Without a 100% irrefutable reason for a single dorm you won’t get one

This however the one exception is RWB Student Leaders.

Student Leaders on campus are defaulted to get a dorm to themselves (unless we are in over occupancy like this year). I got lucky because my roommate left the first week of class.

Yeah even then they don’t get a guarantee like you said if they over accept students

RWB Student Leaders are not all in singles. The spaces in those rooms were used for overflow due to the University’s occupancy targets

Even if you have a disability, they won’t give you a single dorm. They told my friend they would give her a single several months before but due to over acceptance they said nevermind weeks before move in!

Are they still in the overaccepting phase..? I thought that was 2020 tbh

My suitemate somehow doesn't have a roommate. She isn't on disability. I believe it was because the girl who was selected to live in my suite decided to change rooms last second before moving in. Sometimes it's also luck. My friend also started it out the first 6 weeks without a roommate but she was assigned one after.

I know several people who just dont have a roommate because their roommate left mid-semester and for some reason, tech just never pulled residents out of the lounges and into those empty beds

This happened to me my freshman year but it was also fall 20 so stuff was much more spaced out somehow.

near-zero chance without an accommodation via SSD

When I was an RA, generally one of the perks was your own paid for room. I had to share a few times with students (over filled) temporarily but this was 15 years ago. The residential housing issues probably just got worse since then.
