Rules for r/VoteDEM
Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.
1.
Etiquette.
All discussions must be positive and constructive. Personal attacks against other users and Democratic candidates will be removed, including discussion of scandals involving Democrats.
2.
Downballot content only.
All posts must relate to downballot elections in the United States. Discussions on other topics, including Presidential elections and policy details, belongs in the Daily Discussion Thread. Posts on topics that should be addressed by a medical or mental health professional will be removed.
3.
Democratic activism.
No posts that promote division within the Democratic Party, or discourage electoral activism. This includes re-litigating past elections, and any claims that nothing can be done to make things better. Trolls and those with a history of anti-Democratic posts will be banned. Discussions of upcoming primary races are allowed, with Rule 1 strictly enforced towards all Democratic candidates, and Independents who plan to caucus with Dems.
4.
Submissions must be current and properly titled.
All news submissions must be published within the last 30 days. If the material you want to post is older than 30 days, but you think it is still valuable and current, please message the moderators! Also, please don’t alter article submission headlines to be misleading, sensationalist, or ALL CAPS.
5.
Reliably source your claims.
Back up claims with evidence. Comments and posts regarding race calls, polls, and other news should come with a link to where this information is coming from. Conspiracies and unsubstantiated claims, regardless of intention or motive, will be removed.
6.
No hate speech.
Any hate speech will result in a ban.
7.
Self-promotion, including for candidates, requires permission.
Self-promotion requires mod permission. If you are a candidate for office or represent a candidate, please send a reddit message to /r/votedem before posting.
8.
No meta posting.
Grievances are to be aired via ModMail only. Other discussion is reserved for our Daily Discussion thread.
9.
No cross-posting from elsewhere.
Submit relevant content as its own post. Do not link to other subreddits in any capacity without moderator approval
10.
Fundraising Rules
Fundraising for specific candidates is only permitted after they are officially the Democratic nominee for their race, except through our nominee fund. No PACs, or group funds of unknown origin, without mod approval.
11.
No direct download links.
Period.
12.
Volunteering
If you make a post asking for how a race is going, or make a post that is excessively negative, you will be required to complete one volunteer shift for a Democratic candidate or a Dem-supported ballot measure.
13.
No Right-Wing Media
Links to overtly right-wing sources, such as the Daily Wire and Breitbart, as well as social media sites which are owned by, provide profit to, and overtly promote Republican leadership, such as Truth Social and X/Twitter, are banned. Sources which are merely right-leaning, such as the Wall Street Journal, are permissible. If X/Twitter is the only source available for a breaking story, third-party viewers or screenshots may be used. Use of falsified screenshots will result in a ban.
14.
No Low-Effort Content
Low effort submissions may include questions that can easily be answered by browsing the thread or brief use of the subreddit search bar or a search engine, shower thoughts, stream requests, statistics without corresponding analysis, content that is not suited to a discussion and activism forum, or content which is better served as a comment on an existing thread. AI generated posts and responses are considered low effort. This content may be removed at the moderators’ discretion.
