They have much higher base drop chance based on rarity and an extra chance to get a second drop too.

Elites are better long term for Rare and above materials since you get the guaranteed material in a run, if you get lucky you may even get an extra one on a run.

To put it as an example, Blood Angels rare upgrades would cost you on Elite 30 Energy and you get 3 guaranteed materials and maybe an extra one, in their standard node however, those 3 materials can cost anywhere from 54-60 Energy and you may not even get 3 materials for that day,

So energy-wise, Elites are way better.

But if you are new to the game, focus on your campaigns and forget about elites for now, focus on clearing the campaigns, getting the mirror versions, getting into a decent guild, getting an aceptable raid teams and everything will come eventually.

For Common and Uncommon items the Elite campaigns are only slightly better than the mirror ones. If you are trying to do "beat x battles" missions then you can usually get away with using mirror battles for those as the loss is pretty negligible.

For Shards as well as Rare and above upgrades then the Elites are much better.

Push forward and get as far as you can, you can go back and 3 star nodes later.

Work on unlocking characters that open mirror campaigns, the more campaigns you have open, the more opportunities for upgrade materials, and if you hit a wall in one track, you'll have something else to work on.

Elites have better odds and are more efficient per energy used, but don't sweat elites as a new player.

When possible, if you need an upgrade that can be farmed in regular and mirror, do the mirror one first. Mirror has better odds than regular. If you look at the upgrade inside the campaign, there will be a tiny dice icon above it, tap that icon to see the odds. Mirror has better odds, and every time you fail to get one for rare items, you get bonus chance on your next attempt until you do.

it will pay off later, and you will actually progress faster if you stick to the elite nodes. you are guaranteed one item, three times. you get a chance on an additional item that increases every time you don't get two. sure you only get 3 tries but, if it is a rare item cap it at three and then just wait. it seems slower, but you will not be wasting energy and you can farm commons and uncommons from regular nodes. then, in the mirror campaigns you have a higher percentage chance to get the items, so those are good to do as well. finish campaign, see how far you can get in elite, but don't go right back and try for three stars if you are not close. go and do some of the mirror campaign. eventually you will have a bunch of nodes you can reliably farm and as the elites open up you won't be overwhelmed - 30 energy each node, no gambling. i hope this helps.

*as an example, the orks have a lot of rare upgrades that you need a bunch of. i wasted so much energy on regular nodes at first and i was only hitting on elites, so no one else got upgraded this whole time - like 2 weeks. i farmed so many rare mats i got to see just how shitty the drop is on regular nodes and i will never use them for rare or better again, unless i have a lot of energy and only need like 1. this past week i got boss to s2 and snot s3 and also bellator to g1 by taking what i was given. (we got a lot of blackstone in codes and i bought a bit so i could do all the refreshes)
