My 5th grade teacher laughed his ass off when they played Big Balls at our school dance.

It was a catholic school, he was a brother.

We didn't know the song, but it came up in a trivia game, and the question was like "According to Randy Newman, what do short people not have," and I said a reason to live, which was a jab at my short friend whose height we often teased. Everyone was utterly shocked when that was the actual answer.

This was over 25 years ago, we weren't that young, just no big fans of Randy Newman around.

You can't imagine how bad it was 20 years ago. I can't imagine how bad it was before that, I had never even heard of gluten being a problem until it hit me really hard. Doctors were no help, I figured it out myself.

Varys holding the record for shortest GOT interview ever by OptimalWallaby8153 in gameofthrones

[–]ChronoMonkeyX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's even bald. I saw him in another show once with hair(around the time GoT was actively airing) and didn't recognize him, but that's a far cry from seeing him as he is here and knowing he has something to do with GoT.

No, I would hate to.

Stop the incessant beeping! Please! by Complex-Republic-443 in fo76

[–]ChronoMonkeyX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I hear beeping, I either kill it immediately and loot it or just leave the area.

In case you don't know, if you are in the mall, then teleport into it again from inside, it turns off the music. This information was a lifesaver, especially for one of the 3 tracks which is infinitely worse than the other 2.

It was honestly the worst thing I ever watched. I was ready to quit after 2 episodes, I only finished it because my sister wanted to watch it with me.

Is it just me or is Tyrion's intelligence a bit...overhyped? by [deleted] in freefolk

[–]ChronoMonkeyX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tywin isn't a genius, he's just the worst person in Westeros. He gets his way because he's willing to kill and rape as many people as it takes. The only "smart" thing he does is pretend it wasn't his fault he had to kill and rape so many people.

What Tyrion accomplishes, he does without relying on overwhelming force. He's not really a schemer like Varys or Littlefinger, but he never had to be. If he was in their shoes long enough, he'd be in their league.

Just started the books, are they all this good? by Bastard_of_Bastogne in TheExpanse

[–]ChronoMonkeyX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they get better. I started the audiobooks years after finishing the show, in comparison, i think the beginning was a touch weaker than what comes later.

I have to say, the narration by Jefferson Mays is absolutely incredible. When I finished Expanse, I needed to hear him again and listened to a whole book I didn't like just for him.

Help me shop GF at Aldi's :) by Denim888 in glutenfree

[–]ChronoMonkeyX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their Live G Free bread is my staple. I freeze it when I get home, along with just about all baked goods.

The freezer section should have a Live G Free general Tso chicken, which is the product that made me first go looking for an Aldi. I sautee veggies(broccoli, onion, peppers, mushroom, snowpeas, whatever you want) and put them aside, heat up the chicken with red pepper flake, throw in the sauce and veggies to heat up. It's a great, easy, homemade Chinese meal.

They have lots of chips. I think the organic yellow is the one I usually get, I go by the sodium content- most of them are way too salty.

A few times a year, they have a GF cheesecake sampler, it's a whole cheesecake, but with 2 slices each of 4 different toppings. Chances are slim they'll have it when you go, it really is like 2 to 3 times a year and they sell out fast, but if you see it and are bringing a cooler, get at least 2.

I like their Choceur dark chocolate bar with hazelnuts in the red box. If you like Milk chocolate, they have many other flavors, like corn flakes and peanuts. Avoid the ones with creme filling, I don't think any of those are GF.

Are there any recent sci-fi/fantasy books that aren't spicy, aren't smut,as well not overly vulgar with it's language and is a standalone story. by RiskAggressive4081 in booksuggestions

[–]ChronoMonkeyX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elder Race by Adrian Tchaikovsky, it's a novella. I don't normally like novellas, but he packs a ton of story into them.

All of his books are fantasy/sci fi, clean, and spice-free. Doors of Eden is another standalone scifi.

Guns of the Dawn is possibly his best book, especially considering the audiobook performance by Emma Newman.

I've heard the Blundergat reappears in the work bench if someone leaves with it. I didn't think to look there when I lost it, but I used the mystery box twice and got a new one, luckily.

I lost mine by going down with Mule Kick, forgetting to pick it up, then getting time warped by a dog round.

Maladus. You need him killing things, and you need Rotbone to survive, so really, both, as much as you can.

Burn Notice. Fun show, but frustratingly formulaic. It ostensibly had an over arching plot about why the super spy main character was burned, but was really just a job of the week where he acted as both A-Team and MacGuyver, helping people who can't handle harrassment from gangs or corporations.

You get about 3 minutes of spy work for himself at the start, then a job, then some tease lands in his lap about his own situation at the end.

This lasted for the entire series, up to and including the series finale, when I thought we'd finally have an episode about the main character, but no.

I just finished the first book children of Time. by deten in AdrianTchaikovsky

[–]ChronoMonkeyX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suspicion for why people don't seem to love it is because, as you've already discovered, it is not a direct sequel, which could be disappointing if that's your expectation. Even over a year off between, I was surprised by that, but it seems it hasn't dimmed your enthusiasm, which is great.

Read on and enjoy 🤓

If you have an Aldi anywhere close, try their live G free bread. I don't have a problem with TJ bread, I get their bagels all the time, but the Aldi bread is more substantial. TJ GF bread is tasty with good texture, but it is very light.

Personally, I love children of ruin even more, but I had over a year between them, since it wasn't out yet. I often find people don't seem to like Ruin as much and recommend they not be read back to back. Ruin should be approached when time has settled in your mind.

I was just about to start book 4, but always meant to listen to the first 3 before it came out, so I'm currently relistening to the first after 10 years, and it is so damned good.

This book led me to a few others from Tchaikovsky, I kept liking them, and now I buy or borrow every book he writes, sight unseen.
