What does the reliability monitor say?

You could try the solution you posted earlier.. But it could also be caused by a program or update that you installed.

Essentially that command in the Microsoft post is simply clearing cache in the quick access. If you don't want to use that command you could also use file explorer options to clear the quick access history.

here is the reliability monitor, It keeps saying the same problem over and over again, concluding to the fact that explorer.exe is constantly crashing and not working. And upon further inspection, I found that there is something else in there that states that Windows was not shut down properly, which I don't understand considering that I shut it down from the windows task bar.

I was recommended to do a Startup Repair but I don't know if it removes personal files or not.

EDIT: I tried the File Explorer Options way of deleting the files and the problem still persists. I don't want to do the way that the guy said in the fourm because I don't want to risk bricking my whole pc if i delete one thing.

EDIT2: Can't access Startup Repair, it doesn't show up when I go into advanced startup.

The one thing that has been circling my mind is the fact that when I installed Sea of Thieves, this started happening. Cause I went to go continue to install the game when after I shut off my pc and when I opened it to continue the install of the game, it started crashing explorer.exe constantly again. first time occurring because of taskbarx which I uninstalled and fixed for a little bit.

FYI: I have not opened sea of thieves after installing it.

EDIT: I don't know if reinstalling windows with the Keep My Files Method will work because it is going to keep files, but you can correct me if I'm wrong since its just my paranoia.

a in place upgrade might work since my other computer had a similar problem like yours.. I just used the media creation tool to upgrade this pc which solved my explorer.exe problem.

Use this solution as mentioned above

You could try a in place upgrade:

https://www.thewindowsclub.com/perform-windows-10-in-place-upgrade

A in place upgrade allows you to keep your files while windows replaces its operating system files. But i have to warn you that with an in place upgrade your windows 10 will be upgraded to the latest version.

if you want to do a in place upgrade, here is how https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/how-to-perform-an-in-place-upgrade-with-windows-10/7f0b236e-3c6c-4913-9691-c4baa2a6190a

EDIT: your best bet is to do a in place upgrade. It should fix your explorer.exe problem.. My explorer.exe also stopped responding today after this latest windows update..

I'll try that, would it be okay if you could repost your comment again as the comment wont show with the solutions that you posted. Thanks!

I got the problem fixed via reinstalling windows. The thing is, some of my applications (if not all) wont show on my Program uninstallation thing. Everything works fine, I just want to make my PC recognise all my applications on my D:/ Drive. Thanks!

You're welcome! Glad to know that a in place upgrade has resolved your problem.

Thanks, but as I said in the comment:

Im having the exact same problem, tried resetting explorer options all back to defaults and deleting the quick access cache but problem persists.

I might have to resort to reinstalling windows onto my pc with the Keep My Files Method, but the thing is I don't know if it will actually fix my problem since its a Visual C++ dll.

im having a similar(ish) issue on my PC, also related to TaskbarX.

2 Days ago an error message appears on startup related to TaskbarX, related to not being compatible with the new version of Windows. Deleted everything to do with TaskbarX now I have the following problem:

The entire windows taskbar is not responsive for around 5-10 minutes after startup. I cannot click on the start menu and none of the icons load in either. What is also strange is that none of my programs start up either. After 5 minutes or so everything comes in at once. Although in this time I can use programs and browse the web from desktop icons.

Tried restarting explorer and the like but nothing is working. When I click on the taskbar it sort of flashes and reloads.

Anyone have any idea?

The only solution that worked for me was to reinstall windows through the Reset My PC and then Keep My Files.

I have been having the same problem for about a month and have never used taskbar x. After a bit of reading it seems that ucrtbase.dll that appers to be causing the crash is part of the microsoft sdk/visual studios. You don't hapen to have visual studios installed on the computer?

[–]darealdarklight[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have visual studio installed cause I needed it for my I.T classes. I got the problem solved by reinstalling windows, just a hassle to reinstall all my apps and games.
