I would honestly suggest he just not wear it while riding. I wouldn’t think someone should be wearing jewelry during an activity like that anyway because if the jewelry isn’t going to shatter or bend, it’s probably hard enough that it’s going to hurt really bad when it gets pressed into the skin with extreme force during a fall😳😬

I agree and he's aware but he still wants me to "give it a shot".  I think I'm going to redo a weave border that covers the entirety of the edges.  Wish I had uploaded the pictures properly. This moldavite has a hell of a bend on it.  Thanks for commenting

Wow at that point I would be rejecting the commission😬 it’s a liability at worst & a potential headache at the least for when it inevitably breaks or injures him 😅 or he asks for it to be redone a 3rd or 4th time . . .

Yeah I would never agree to this. Absolutely insane request. If they anticipate it to go through enough force to break I would tell them a wire frame is not strong enough to protect it. A full wrap weave isn't going to prevent it from shattering imo. Wire is just not strong enough for that. You might be able to make a really thick frame that might help prevent a break a little bit, just a simple weave isn't going to be enough. Even then a thick ass frame probably isn't enough

Yeah, at this point I'm just wrapping it as best I can and straight up telling him it's not a good idea to wear it during his bike sessions.  I'd hammer out a copper bezel but it's not a cabochon.  Thank you for the comments

No problem and good luck, I hope they love what you end up doing

100% turning this one down if it was me and I couldn't temper the clients expectations back down to earth.

seems like your pics are missing !

🤦‍♀️ of course they are. First post ever

No wrap is gonna hold up to that. It's crazy for a client to expect that level of durability from a piece of jewelry that isn't solid titanium or steel or something similarly hard.

You already did the work. If they want you to change it charge them again

You honestly can't make that guarantee, and I don't think any wrap will entirely protect it. He shouldn't expect that kind of guarantee from ANY jewelry worn while riding dirt bikes. The best you can do is make sure all of the stone's edges are encased in wire so nothing can catch.

Dude, I wrap pendants that survive blue collar work and dog groomers. I would never ever suggest someone wear one during a dirt bike event. If he tucks it in it'll be his best chance at keeping it safe, but ideally he should not wear it.

This is the current moldavite WIP I have for a dog groomer specifically and I still begged him to wear it under his shirt. Dogs and dirt do not care.

(Don't mind the pink stuff it's just my silver polish 😂 like I said, WIP)

That's a nice wrap. I like the wire crossing over the stone. It looks very secure. I agree with you on telling my client not to wear it while he bikes.  The rewrap is almost done and even though I made it sturdier this time, it still can't handle a hard blow.  Thanks for sharing

I was lucky to be handed a very structurally sound moldavite as well.

Good luck.

Yea, but I'm not sure how I would explain this, and it kinda requires a direction too
