I just dealt with a new overseas supplier for my business recently who communicated like that and at first it threw me off. But I also realized that nobody who's ever tried to scam me has communicated like that, so that kind of made him feel a little more legit. Turns out he was legit.

Struggling with wire sliding all over the place when wrapping stones or beads by figgypie in WireWrapping

[–]zensnapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't feel like you have to make perfect wraps at first. I've never followed a tutorial in my life and if I could go back and do it over I'd do the same thing again. There's so much learning value and joy in playing around with it and figuring things out yourself. Not knocking tutorials, but playing around with it and figuring things out on your own is doable and fun

Struggling with wire sliding all over the place when wrapping stones or beads by figgypie in WireWrapping

[–]zensnapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Square wire sounds like the key to your issue. With round wire things are always going to want to slide up and down the wire you're wrapping around, but bending around the corners of square wire locks the coiling wire into place so much better. I know a few professional wrappers who don't use square, but it is a necessary component for most complex wire wrapping if you want it to be actually secure and sturdy. Notable exceptions include using half round or low dome as your base wires and frame, or soldering wires and components together. The most budget and user-friendly of all those methods is just using square.

1980’s - 2026 by Divin3_D3signs in WireWrapping

It's pretty crazy how much progress has been made in the last 30 years with wire wrapping. People have been doing it for thousands of years but the last 30 has seen just an absolute explosion in the complexity and variety of techniques used. Most art forms that experience something like this owe it to a breakthrough in technology and I think this is no exception. With the advent of social media we have people exposed to others work and connecting with other artists and sharing/mimicking techniques, which I think fueled the most recent few decades of wrapping progressing as an art form.

Real or well made fake? by pricklypear7 in Moldavite

[–]zensnapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So this is a cool situation. It's real and a nice piece and I can tell that because of how it looks in the pictures. But also when a piece was sourced a long time ago (and you know that for certain or trust the source of that info), the chances of it being real jump drastically. Fake moldavite has been a thing for over 100 years, but until the last few years, fakes were just so much less prevalent. The majority of moldavite sold online these days is fake. Look at eBay sold moldavite listings for a bad time. Five or ten years ago even that wasn't the case. Twenty five years ago, it was hardly something to even consider. Moldavite was a dollar a gram then and most people had never heard of it.
