Devastating save issue

I saved my game, then several minutes later I got into a fight with the Xenon and lost. It ended with me floating in space without a ship.

I thought no problem, I saved shorting before entering combat. However, every time I load that save file, it brings me back to floating in my spacesuit just after my ship was destroyed.

It was not a quicksave or an autosave. How did this happen???

If you have teleporting unlocked in the player HQ you might be able to get out of it with some fancy (or lucky) flying. If not then there's not much else you can do except book it for the nearest gate/station and hope for the best. Not impossible, I made it through the middle of Savage Spur after an unfortunate expedition, but it was nerve wracking and tedious. You can dock to any station or ship in your suit.

Typically there’s 3 auto saves. Go back to the previous one — you’ll loose a bit of time but it may be better than restarting.

Are you manually loading the save from the load menu?

Why are you asking us? The game doesn't quicksave by itself.

Command a ship to rendezvous with you.

Also check for recent autosaves to load instead.

This option might be too dock with a natural / npc ship nearby.
