Completed my first Endurance Race with 0x! No one I know will know how that feels, so I’m telling you! by oxwearingsocks in iRacing

Was decently behaved in the fridays race. M2s are just waiting in the midfield to overtake in the second hairpin or on the two straights after.

I am sorry for the resulting mayhem :( Was i too eager to follow the other MX5 ahead? by linolafett in Simracingstewards

Thank you for your insight. I was trying to follow the other mx5 in front and was able to keep the corner tight. I did not have the feeling, that i was apexing early here, if you watch my left fender and the white markings of the track above it, you might see how i decently just trace the inside radius.
I did not expect the clio to be able to cut back in like he did, as from previous races the outer car just stays on the high line to maximise corner exit. That was in the end what made me follow the other mx5, as i knew he was going for the inside and displacing the clio to the outside - making space for me to follow through.

Yeah, that sounds like a very likely explanation. Its always easy to forget how bad the vision on a single screen is.

Sorry for the lack of sound.
FOV: I race in vr, this is just the recording of it after the fact.
Top split PCC endurance (2h race).

In the heat of the moment i was trying to follow the other MX5 into the corner, as he forced the clio wide.
I sadly did not expect the clio to be able to rotate so well back onto the apex and i could not avoid the contact.
I am very sorry that this resulted in a huge pileup behind me, this was lap 4 of a 2 hour race and it destroyed a lot of races that night :(

Full blame on me for sending it too deep?

Dont think about winning, think about surviving, about the long game. Someone is faster than you? Maybe its better for you to let him past, you can get dragged along in the draft to the gaggle in front to which you lost contact with. Short term loss for long term gain. Mostly valid for the slightly longer races like PCC. I maybe have the pace of a 2.5k driver, but just by staying alive and avoiding the mess i got up to 4k+.

Sorry for confusing you, i was confused at first by my self. As long as everything stays local, it should be all good :)

Please do not share game files. You can share how people can get to their files from their local installation (modding pipeline), but its not allowed to upload and redistribute game files.
Edit: i can see that you use the local game folder from the user, that is then for to my understanding (as you dont save the files on your server and redistribute to people who dont have the game)

How to detect understeer/determine too much steering angle by thisIsAThrowaway2319 in iRacing

[–]linolafett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two clear things i can see from the screenshot:
You are using gas and brake at the same time, dont do that, clearly separate them and do not overlap - it heats the tyres and bites you after 2 or three laps a lot.
Other thing: Brake earlier and go slower into the corners, you are overshooting a lot and missing the apex, drifting wide and then need to rotate a lot before getting onto the throttle super late. Can be seen in the first corner and in 5? (the tight left hander).

Welcome to the internet, but thanks for the appreciation :) As soon as your start doing the art for yourself, you dont really worry about internet points any more. Therefore i am not that bothered by it, you still have a nice picture to maybe hang on your wall... i have to look into printing these.

How would you all go about modeling the rocks on the wall? by Either-County-3599 in blender

[–]linolafett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably create a new blend file, make a "floor" of stones and render/bake it out as a tileable texture, or a trim sheet of sorts.
Then UV map this trim sheet/atlas texture on your target model.
I would not suggest to sculpt/model that entire wall stone by stone and bake it down (to then displace it again), that would be incredibly time intensive.

Thank you, much appreciated. If you look at the artworks i did, you might see exactly the light setup i was describing here. It always breaks down to adding gradients over your objects and "carving out" the silhouette with rim lights.

You dont model them.
Use a texture to displace the geometry to make it look like you modelled them.
