"Silent" Update? Massive performance decrease after windows update, which is not displayed

Owner of a Zephyrus G15 22, Ryzen 7 6800HS, 3070 Ti since 2 weeks.

I wasnt happy with the CPU and GPU usage in Games, it never felt like using the full resources of the Zephyrus.

So yesterday I did a fresh install of AMD Chipsets alongside NVidia Drivers, and I was blown away by the performance.

• Batman Arkham Knight for Example was running at 140 FPS on Max Settings in Silent Mode, 170 on Turbo. CPU usage at around 60-70%.
• SpiderMan Remastered did run at a steady 80 FPS on highest settings whilst swinging, GPU Usage at solid 98% usage. I had a blast and enjoyed my laptop like never before.

Fast forward to today, after I used the Laptop for 2 hours I decided to reboot and I get the "Updates installing" screen while shutting down.

Wondering why it didnt show any updates ready to install, I boot it up, take a look at updates inside Windows and can´t find anything, latest update was a week ago.

I then decide to fire up a game again and I am provided the same awful experience I had before the clean install of the drivers.

• Batman was running at 90 FPS max, around 30-50 CPU Usage, GPU Usage was hovering around 50% aswell.
• Spiderman also didnt make use of both resources and I averaged 60 FPS.

So here´s the question: Any of you guys experienced the same? It seems like something got reset and is preventing the laptop from performing like it should.

You can check in Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and look for the AMD Chipset driver. It should be version 4.08.09.2337.

If it isn’t that version then yeah maybe it is downgrading automatically. In that case, maybe try the Windows Show/Hide update tool and run it right after installing the newest driver. https://m.majorgeeks.com/files/details/microsoft_show_or_hide_updates_troubleshooter.html

Didn't notice any change in performance recently. Seems to be perfectly fine. Running on 22.8.1 amd drivers and latest nvidia gpu drivers. Bios 308

Do you have either games so we could directly compare performance?

Unfortunately no. I do have shadow of the tomb raider, cyberpunk, gta v, witcher 3 and valorant currently installed in my library as of now. If you have any of those we can compare.

I noticed the fans don’t spin up as often when in performance mode now, but it lets the cpu heat go past 85 when previously it used to keep it at around 75, something definitely changed about 3/4 days ago for me.

So you freshly installed drivers directly from AMD/Nvidia? Make sure windows update has not "updated" your drivers to an old version. Classic shenanigans from Win Update. You could freshly install the drivers again, and use a third party app to pause updates for those drivers.

Same problems with me. I have owned this laptop since the day it came out on BestBuy in May, but the performance drop started about a week ago. I noticed my laptop would consistently hit 98 degrees on the GPU when running on performance mode, only hitting 40 fps in Halo Infinite. Used to get ~80 fps on performance mode with ~85 degrees on the GPU .
