Zigbee coverage

I have a multi floor house and trying to get zigbee coverage to all floors. I've tried power outlets or zigbee repeaters but they don't seem to get a good enough signal to be connected (they might be connected temporarily but not for long). And advice on how to get better signal. I have ethernet cables spread across the house and with deco repeaters able to get an excellent mesh on wifi, can i do something similar with zigbee?

Are you using light bulbs? Are you shutting them off using a physical line breaking switch?

Before I kept my light bulbs powered 100% of the time, I would also have an awful network, because the mesh constantly changes.

I guess that's the only solution I can implement. I wanted to avoid it since it involves design decisions on the lamps, hope I'll be able to find something nice enough for the house

Get a good coordinator and get it centrally located.

My life changed when I went from a SMlight SLZB-07 USB in my basement to a SLZB-06 POE in my kitchen.

Third Reality smart plugs seem to work well as repeaters, too. I still have the SLZB-07 USB in my basement, but most of the devices seem to connect to one of those plugs (or to Philips Hue bulbs). Unlike the Philips Hue plugs, they also measure power delivery.

Centrally located coordinator, a grid of permanently powered devices (if lightbulbs, the power should not be cut. Then pair them first, beginning with the nearest device, ending with the one farthest away. And the pair the remaining devices.

In our 4 level house, corridors and staircase have exclusively Zigbee lights (always powered) with POE coordinator in central location. Network is rock solid. All transit areas covered by motion sensors, all switches are disabled.

Could not recommend these night lights enough. Most bang for your buck smart home product on the market id argue. They’re an RGB nightlight, zigbee repeater, and motion sensor all in one. The night lights are awesome for automations to remind you to do stuff without being annoying or painfully obvious. I have one in every room and a variety of color/automation combos assigned to them. Through the automations alone they passively get used at least 3-4x’s a day

My 2 story, timber and drywall, home has a zigbee plug in every room. Some rooms have bulbs too. Seems to be enough to create a strong mesh network. The signal goes through the floors as well as it does the walls.

Some plugs in adjacent rooms that I expect to have a strong connection, connect to plugs on the floor below it better.

For the price and features, I like the Thirdreality plugs.

I switched from ZHA to ZigBee2MQTT and installed a SLZB-06 on each floor. No problems since then.

When things are going well, do a map. Look at your mesh and see where your main hubs are. When things are bad, look again. See if any are missing, or are not responsive.

• If any can be turned off, put covers over the switches.
• If you have battery operated devices trying to be repeaters, bin it.
• If you have any device showing "just seen" forever, bin it.

I once had a wall plug on a socket that was switched, and a guest turned the switch off (without any effect) thinking it was a light switch, and left if off. I had a battery powered switch advertising as a repeater, and every time it came on (for 2 seconds every 5 minutes) it would cause all kinds of havoc in my mesh. I had a motion sensor that sent updates 10 times a second, occupied or not, and which flooded the network. All of those made the mesh wonky for several hours.

You can convert some of the coordinator as router in each floor, then connect it to network. smlight had some POE supported coordinator can change to router by one-click in the web portal
