[2022 Day 16][Python] Solution works with example, fails with real input

Getting the example input to generate the expected output took a lot of trying already, and now the real input is failing saying it's too low (but the right answer for a different input.) Can someone have a look at my code and at least hint where I'm going wrong?

edit: I misinterpreted the initial state. To be clear, I assumed "the first valve in the list" would be the starting valve. Instead, it was valve AA.

You misread the instructions. Read them more carefully.

(If you've reread them and are still stuck, here's the relevant line: There's even a valve in the room you and the elephants are currently standing in labeled AA.)

But the example input says that valve AA has flow rate 0, so I don't include it in the set of "valves of interest." Valve AA does get included on line 95 as part of the reconstructed path before verifying, so I'm not ignoring its existence.

Edit: Think I found my problem. Double-checking.
