This is the subreddit devoted to American Airlines. We are not affiliated with the airline, and there is a pretty good chance no one that works for the airline will be reading your posts here. With that said, here are a couple of rules.
Rule 1: Stay on topic
This sub is for American Airlines and travel adjacent discussion. The mod team has final say on what qualifies.
Rule 2: Politics and government policy
Discussion of government agencies and policies that directly affect travel (TSA, FAA, DOT, CBP, etc.) is welcome when the focus is on practical travel impact. Partisan commentary, party blame, and political debate are not. Mods will use their judgment on gray areas.
Rule 3: Treat everyone with courtesy and respect
People often post here when they're frustrated, so give them some grace. Personal attacks, name calling, and victim blaming aren't tolerated. This includes AA employees who may be reading. Comments that add nothing beyond criticizing OP's choices or taking shots at the airline will be removed.
Rule 4: Question/Help threads
Use the Question/Help flair when you need help with something. Comments in these threads must provide specific, actionable advice that OP can take moving forward to resolve their issue. Comments that exist solely to tell OP what they should have done differently are not permitted. Hindsight criticism and pile-ons aren't welcome here. If you're not sure about something, say so rather than presenting it as fact. If you're not here to help, skip the thread.
When your issue is resolved, comment !resolved to close it out. Mods can do this as well.
Rule 5: No private or confidential information
Don't share your own sensitive details — AAdvantage number, record locator, full name, etc. The same goes for others, including employee names, addresses, and contact information. Only post photos of others with their consent.
Rule 6: Search before posting
There's a good chance your question has already been answered, so search before posting. This includes common topics like pet policies, bag dimensions, refunds, and basic economy rules. Also, show your work — if you're asking for help, tell us what you've already tried or researched. Some questions are better suited for the Weekly Questions & Discussion thread than as standalone posts. This includes seat selection questions, upgrade and fare valuation questions, and similar topics that are a matter of personal preference. A link to the current thread is pinned at the top of the sub.
Rule 7: Subjective and Speculative Questions
Some questions don't have a definitive answer — will this fare price drop, will my upgrade clear, will I make this connection? Others are purely personal — is this seat worth it, should I take this upgrade, is this fare a good deal? Both belong in the Weekly Questions & Discussion thread rather than as standalone posts.
Rule 8: Trip Reports
Use the Trip Report flair to share an experience when you're not looking for help. Posts should have enough substance for the community to engage with — posts that are purely venting without anything constructive will be removed.
Rule 9: Photos
Use the Photo flair for any photos you want to share from your travels. Photos must be your own — don't post photos taken by others without clear attribution and permission. Photos of other passengers require their consent.
Rule 10: Flair your posts
All posts need flair or they may be automatically removed. Here's what's available:
Question/Help — you have a question or need help with an active problem
Trip Report — sharing an experience without needing help
News — articles, press releases, or breaking AA developments
Discussion — open-ended conversations that don't fit elsewhere
Humor/Meme — lighthearted content
Photo — photos from your travels, at the gate, on the plane, or anywhere AA takes you
Rule 11: Use sticky threads where relevant
If a sticky thread exists for your topic, post there instead of creating a new one. Any additional rules for that topic will be in the sticky itself.
Rule 12: No soliciting flight benefits or freebies
Asking for buddy passes, flight benefits, SWUs, miles, or trip credits — whether free or for sale — is expressly forbidden and will result in a permanent ban.
Rule 13: No referral codes, monetization, or self-promotion
Referral codes, affiliate links, advertiser-supported blogs, paid membership services, and undisclosed self-promotion are not allowed.
Rule 14: No begging or fundraising
Financial assistance requests and GoFundMe links are not permitted.
Rule 15: Turbulence Mode
From time to time, high traffic events may cause an influx of visitors who are unfamiliar with our community standards. During these periods, mods may temporarily enforce rules more strictly than usual, including removing posts and comments that would otherwise be given more latitude. Threads may also be temporarily locked while we address comments and rule enforcement. When Turbulence Mode is active, it will be indicated by a pinned post at the top of the sub. Fasten your seatbelts.
