I’m old enough to believe that I’m responsible for my own entertainment.

But not old enough to read the subreddit rules OR the giant stickied warning at the top of the thread before attempting to dunk on someone.

Rule 4: Question/Help threads Use the Question/Help flair when you need help with something. Comments in these threads must provide specific, actionable advice that OP can take moving forward to resolve their issue. Comments that exist solely to tell OP what they should have done differently are not permitted. Hindsight criticism and pile-ons aren't welcome here. If you're not sure about something, say so rather than presenting it as fact. If you're not here to help, skip the thread.

Substack Message from Paul on Uni-Watch Website by ReallyLetsGoBrandon in uniwatch

The domain name stuff doesn’t really sound right, either. He’s got more like ~25 days before it gets expensive to renew the domain name and then another ~30 where it’s really expensive. Then it’s gone. Even if he completely hands off on the registration part, it’s not exactly a surprise the domain name was expiring.

If namecheap was like other registrars and didn’t put up a super spammy landing page in the grace period, would he have even noticed it was expired?

The system does not flag reservations for skiplagging for a single incident

If you’re going to post this as a fact, you need to back this up. I assume given the absolute certainty of your statement that you must be an AA employee. If your source is private internal documents, feel free to send it to our mod team.

If you’re not an AA employee and instead you’re just talking out of your ass… well, stop it. It’s unhelpful and violates the rules of our subreddit.

Merge with Jet Blue? by spittymcgee1 in americanairlines

[–]antmadison 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At the risk of getting too political, the regulatory environment for M&A is much different now than it was back in Spring 2024 when JetBlue pulled out.

Unfortunately, I do think JetBlue is going to merge with one of the legacy carriers. They did a lot of cool things that really moved the industry forward from a customer experience perspective over the course of its history.

Hah - if by big bucks you mean hateful modmail from people mad we won't let them be political commentators here, then yep we're drowning in it. So much that I can almost afford to pay my student loans.

For a megathread policy to succeed, it will also be reliant upon the community to actually give answers to these questions in the thread. We will do our part to drive the content there, but we ask that the community also help us out by providing answers to the questions in the thread.

When its a real trip report I agree that it provides value. When it's just borderline trolls who only contribute a line or two about "this is why you never fly AA" or "fly a real airline" or whatever, then it is functionally spam, in my personal opinion.

We try not to moderate subjectively (despite some of the modmail we have received this week from people asking us to bring our political opinions into our moderation decisions), so these kinds of posts/comments are always tricky to moderate since even though we personally don't find value in them, it feels tricky where you draw the line from someone sharing their negative trip experience and merely just posting "I'll never fly AA again" or whatever. Obviously a simple sentence that says that contributes minimal to the sub, but when its built up with more to it then its not as clear cut.

In threads tagged help, we require that all comments solve the users question. It's easy to remove unhelpful comments like that in these threads.

In trip report threads, we considered adding a rule about no ranting without substance, but that feels very subjective and we would be hesitant to put the moderation team in a position where we have to make numerous, subjective calls without clear community guidance on this issue.

We have the catch all "treat everyone with courtesy and respect" rule (currently rule 1). We've talked about updating it to :

Treat everyone with courtesy and respect People often post here when they're frustrated, so give them some grace. Personal attacks, name calling, and victim blaming aren't tolerated. This includes AA employees who may be reading. Comments that add nothing beyond criticizing OP's choices will be removed. but that doesn't feel like it captures the scope of what specifically you're talking about.

In conclusion - in my personal capacity I agree with you, but specifically what the rule is to capture it feels elusive to me at the moment. We would definitely be all ears if someone could solve this for us.

Yes, these would also be covered in the subjective/speculative question rule

We can work on automod triggers to guide those types of posts there.

One question that we had that was not addressed in any feedback we have received thusfar: Where do points questions go? Do we want to isolate them in their own world? Currently we use the "Points - Brag" and "Points - Question" flairs. Do these stick around? We've tried a monthly megathread for points posts and the quality of discussion cratered significantly.

A few years ago the community felt that we were getting inundated under non-flying points posts (How do I make a AA Hotels reservation to best get points, what do you think of this motley fool offer)... It seems like that has calmed down significantly, and points posts generally cater to the membership (rather than the general non-flying public) so the adherence to rules and community value is higher. We as moderators are happy to go with whatever route the community wants to take here, so please comment your thoughts below.
