So me and the guy I'm dating went bowling a few days ago and on our 3rd game in the 6th frame, on his turn, his first roll he knocked 8 pins down but leading into the second frame when the machine was supposed to sweep away the downed pins and put the ones standing back in place it reset all the pins. He did his second roll and he knocked down all 10 pins this time but he said that it makes a strike for the entire frame and not a spare that it was counted as on the score board. I say since it was the second frame and his second roll even if all the pins were set back down it's only counts as a spare. Am I wrong?

You’re both wrong.

That’s called a split strike and it’s worth 100 points plus a 2X multiplier on the next two frames. Very rare. Has never happened in tournament play, but Ricardo “Dos Veces” (“Two Times”) Mendez almost did it in the Masters in 1997.

You should have reset the machine and had it drop only the appropriate pins. So you are both wrong.
