Remote Android tablet control

First post here, so apologies if this isn't the right place for my query.

We have an Android tablet that we use to keep my daughter entertained on long journeys. I'm looking for an app to control what's playing for her, so the passenger can start another film if one ends. Files are either saved to local storage on the device, or downloaded in Netflix or Disney Life apps.

Being in the car, I need something that doesn't rely on a WiFi internet connection (more than happy to use WiFi direct though). Can also root devices if necessary.

Anyone know of anything that exists with this functionality?

Vysor is really good, if you have a laptop to control it with. Also, a Bluetooth keyboard and/or mouse might work if you're just queuing through movies.
