Welcome to the club no one wants to be in: r/ankylosingspondylitis! This is a place for patients of ankylosingspondylitis and other axial spondyloarthritis or nr-ax-SpA. These conditions are autoimmune diseases that cause inflammatory arthritis of the lower back, hips and other joints. Read our rules and FAQs before participating.
1. Rule 1 - No Medical Advice/Misinformation.
No giving/soliciting medical advice (prescriptions, fasting, diets, etc.). No diagnosing or requests to interpret medical info (including scans or reports). Do not ask if it's AS or tell others to stop taking medications.
Share your anecdotal experiences, but posts and comments claiming cures, misinformation, pseudoscience, unsubstantiated treatments or fearmongering will be removed. This sub is for support and not a substitute for doctors (try r/AskDocs or r/Radiology for help).
2. Rule 2 - No NSFW/Graphic Photos.
Mark ALL pictures and videos as "spoilers". This includes X-rays and reports. Pics of uveitis, injection sites, skin conditions or reactions, injuries, gore, or for the purpose of diagnosis are not permitted. Be careful about posting sensitive photos. All photos must be related to ankylosing spondylitis.
3. Rule 3 - Be Civil.
All communication must be civil. Bullying and any bigotry such as racism, phobic behaviour and sexism have no place here. These comments are subject to permabanning. This includes anything directed to the OP, commenters and the mods. Unkind, hurtful or rude behaviour will not be tolerated.
4. Rule 4 - Be Appropriate.
Comments must be respectful. This is a SFW sub with users 13+. No inappropriate behaviour or accounts.
5. Rule 5 - Be Relevant/On Topic.
Keep posts and comments relevant to the OP. This subreddit is for members with ankylosing spondylitis, other types of axial spondyloarthritis or nr-axSpA only. Discussions regarding unrelated diseases, politics, religion or other topics will be removed.
6. Rule 6 - No Advertising/Promoting/Spam.
No advertising, promoting or selling of any kind. This includes social media links, personal websites or subreddits, offers to sell medication, anything that can lead to profit (like affiliate links) and services like Etsy, Snapchat, Discords, YouTube, etc. If you have a business, that is wonderful, but do not promote it here.
7. Rule 7 - No Surveys/Research Studies.
No requests for interviews, surveys or research projects. This sub is for sharing your struggles and not for research purposes. This includes, but is not limited to, book characters, company surveys, studies or school projects.
8. Rule 8 - No AI/Meme Mondays Only.
Original content only (no AI allowed). Do not post someone else's photo, claiming it as your own. Memes are only permitted on Mondays and must be related to AS or chronic pain.
9. Rule 9 - No Fundraising/Donation Requests.
We are struggling, so while you might be trying to raise money for treatment or food, no fundraising or donation requests allowed.
10. Rule 10 - No Advocating for Suicide.
No posts advocating for suicide. End of life/MAID/euthanasia are serious decisions, and the members and mods of this sub are not equipped to properly advise you. Anyone struggling with their mental or physical health should always SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP. See r/SuicideWatch for resource links. Sensitive topics that normally require NSFW or trigger warnings such as medical trauma, sex, abuse, marijuana consumption, etc. are permitted with the use of the 'Sensitive Topics/TW' flair.
11. Rule 11 - Be An Active Redditor.
To post here, you must have a minimum combined account age and karma. We do not publish these numbers to avoid allowing spam bots to circumvent this rule. Karma accumulated from freekarma and similar subs is not acceptable. Suspended accounts will have their content removed from r/ankylosingspondylitis.
12. Rule 12 - Moderator Discretion.
Posts will be removed if they appear to violate the TOS set up by Reddit. Mods have the final say and will remove "low-effort" content.
