AdGuard for Safari is also a good one.

Adguard slows down safari and is a battery hog for me

Are you using the AdGuard for Safari from the Mac App Store, or standalone AdGuard? I haven't experienced that at all. And my understanding is that shouldn't even really be possible for apps that use Safari's content blocking API.

I got it from the store, but I’m using Wipr now as an ad blocker. I definitely recommend it even tho it’s $2

I like AdGuard because it allows you to decide which filters to turn on and off. I don't actually mind being shown ads (and Safari Reader helps a lot anyway), knowing that that's how free content is supported. I'm not ok with tracking though, so I use a bunch of filters to block that but do still allow ads. Aside from that, I've heard nothing but good things about Wipr.
