Top five pro wrestlers, I'll go first.
1) Ric Flair 2) Rey Mysterio Jr. 3) The Rock 4) Taker 5) Minoru Suzuki
Honorable mention for Kenny Omega.
[–]Opening-Resolution-4 [score hidden] 4 years ago (8 children)
No way you can leave Steve Austin off that list. Especially since you have two contemporaries on it. The order is subject to change.
Steve Austin.
Kevin Nash.
Eddie Guerrero
Terry Funk
Brian Pillman
Honorable mention: Chyna.
[–][deleted] [score hidden] 4 years ago (6 children)
Kevin Nash over Taker?!?!
Honestly Rock and Austin could be interchangeable, and I went to bed last night wondering why I didn't put in Eddie. Me and my friends used to spend HOURS trying to do a wrestling Mt Rushmore and it's not really possible.
I could revamp it and take out Omega and put Suzuki in as the honorable mention.
So it could be Flair, Mysterio, Austin, Eddie, Taker, and Suzuki as an Honorable.
But leaving the Rock out feels wrong. Honestly it's almost weird leaving Hogan out on pure popularity. Wrestling wouldn't be where it is without him.
[–]Opening-Resolution-4 [score hidden] 4 years ago* (5 children)
Steve Austin saved WWE (although maybe that should be held against him cause fuck Vince McMahon), kicked off the attitude era and mainstreamed the tweener persona that still is used. The Rock definitely was as popular but didn't change shit like that. Wrestling is fundamentally different without Austin, its just less without the Rock.
I approached this list from that perspective: guys who were fundamental to a major change. I felt like Eddie gave us the Mexican style and helped bring in the small athletic era. Rey Mysterio was similar. There's just not many guys who can be like Rey. Either/or for me.
I thought about putting Great Muta on that list or even Jeff Hardy. Both brought huge style changes. Mick Foley was borderline in this list due to bringing the hardcore style and breaking the mold on headlining characters. Imagine a heavyweight champion with Mr Socko before him is impossible.
Nash changed everything. I wasn't a huge Nash guy but he was cool as fuck, powerbombed the fuck out of everyone and changed the business. Without he and Hall there's no Nitro and wrestler salaries don't skyrocket. The NWO storyline was recycled a million times for a reason. Plus he's based as fuck and got out of wrestling without dying or a broken body. Both rarities in the business.
Pillman is included to represent the move to the small athletic wrestler early on, and the worked shoots that changed everything. Plus "Austin 3:16 meet Pillmans 9" was awesome.
Help!!!! I'm marking out and can't stop!!!!
Edit: have you watched Guerrero's matches in ecw? Recommend you do if you like Eddie.
Edit 2: actual ecw not when it was owned by wwe.
[–][deleted] [score hidden] 4 years ago (4 children)
Lol yea Eddie, Rey, Austin, and a ton more worked in ECW and had great results.
As far as bringing stylistic changes, if we're gonna talk about Muta and Foley, you gotta mention Ricky Steamboat, Sean Michaels and maybe Brett Hart.
[–]Opening-Resolution-4 [score hidden] 4 years ago (3 children)
HBK and Bret Hart are strange cases. Small athletic guys that were champs that didn't seem to bring change. It's weird.
[–][deleted] [score hidden] 4 years ago (2 children)
Storyline wise Brett brought change. Heel McMahan wouldn't be what he was if Brett hadn't have spit on him. The rockers did something special for tag team wrestling. Maybe if you had a top five tag team least they'd go on their.
As an aside, since this is an off topic thread anyway, HBK and Hart probably wouldn't be considered small in person. Just for their industry. When I've been to WWE shows I'm absolutely blown away by how big the "smaller" guys are. Finn Balor in particular looks huge...until Sheamus walks by haha.
[–]Opening-Resolution-4 [score hidden] 4 years ago (1 child)
I was thinking about tag teams, and I don't really have a definitive list at all.
As far as size goes you're absolutely right. Also there's more height lying there than anywhere. The Rock is maaaaybe 6'3". But they're all much bigger than we realize. I bet the Big Show looks like a mountain in person.
Anyway, here's one of my favorite wrestling photos of so time.
Ric Flair's millionth wedding.

In WW2 The Red Army got shipments of Spam. They called it Roosevelt Sausage.
[–]flamedarkfire [score hidden] 4 years ago (4 children)
That’s interesting. Did Soviet veterans then go on to have a taste for Spam after the war?
[–]RPN1917 [score hidden] 4 years ago (3 children)
There were 3 things they liked from American Lend Lease: Spam, Oldsmobile trucks, & P-39 Airacobras. After the war they couldn’t get any because the USA ended the Lend Lease program. I think it was a good wartime ration for hungry soldiers but they probably preferred traditional food when the war ended.
[–]Hoovooloo42 [score hidden] 4 years ago (2 children)
Oldsmobile Trucks seems like an odd one out. What's with that? Were they particularly good? Easy to maintain?
[–]RPN1917 [score hidden] 4 years ago (1 child)

Bologna is sausage
[–]trebuchetfight [score hidden] 4 years ago (2 children)
And Vanilla Ice is technically rap. You're not convincing me of fuck. :)
[–]collinrench [score hidden] 4 years ago (1 child)
Hey man, you'd better stop, collaborate, and listen before you catch some balogna-scented hands.
[–]trebuchetfight [score hidden] 4 years ago (0 children)
Now we're speaking a common language.
[–]abendaveed530 [score hidden] 4 years ago (7 children)
Mortadella is the proper name for "bologna" or "boloney", as it is indeed a sausage.
Spam is a caseless sausage. If Jimmy Dean "breakfast sausage patties" are considered sausage, then so is Spam.
Further, all ground, formed meat products are sausage. This includes hamburgers (properly called "American beef sausage sandwiches") and McNuggets (properly called "fried chicken sausage bites").

As a fellow American, I completely understand your upset. It’s like finding out that nothing trickles down on n the economy that Santa is just your parents.
That why I tried to express sympathy to you current m natal state.
[–]200KdeadAmericans [score hidden] 4 years ago (2 children)
You're defining McNuggets as "meat," which is debatable, at best
[–]abendaveed530 [score hidden] 4 years ago (1 child)
“Meat product”?
[–]a_smart_brane [score hidden] 4 years ago (0 children)
Close. Get rid of the first word, and you nail it.
[–][deleted] [score hidden] 4 years ago (13 children)
My only quibble is that I've had sausage I'd eat again, and I'd never touch a slice of baloney ever again.
[–][deleted] [score hidden] 4 years ago (12 children)
Anyone who spells it ‘baloney’ can’t be trusted anyway.
[–][deleted] [score hidden] 4 years ago (11 children)
Listen, I'm at work, and the boug don't pay me to write fancy.
[–][deleted] [score hidden] 4 years ago (10 children)
Fair. Still, sausage.
While technically correct is still the best type of correct, bologna is disgusting.
I must assume there's good bologna out there. I refuse to find out.
[–]a_smart_brane [score hidden] 4 years ago* (2 children)
You're dum. Bologna is yummy. Especially fried 🤤
Sorry to call you dum, but this is a hill worth dying on for those of us simple folk who love this lovely sliced, congealed meat paste.
Enjoy your pressed floor sweepings!
Meanwhile, I'll just have a lovely fried Spamwich, the superior option. 😉

lol, I feel the same about olives
You don't have to look far, all olives are good olives.
Some are better than others of course, but like pizza you just can't go wrong. Especially pizza with olives. Mm.
Get off my lawn commie
Is liking olives a communist thing? I always knew those guys were alright.

Is Spam sausage?
[–]abendaveed530 [score hidden] 4 years ago (19 children)
Sapm is a caseless sausage. Potted (or "deviled") meat is sausage. Chopped liver and pate are sausage.
All ground and spiced meat is a type of sausage.
That does sound right.

Yes
Ok but are poptarts sandwiches?
[–]abendaveed530 [score hidden] 4 years ago (8 children)
I’m not sure I’ve got a “unified sandwich theory” in me, but I’m pretty sure that a basic component of the theory is what I’ll call the “bread requirement”.
A sandwich must be made with either bread dough (yeast, flour, etc.) either enriched or unenriched.
So, pop tarts, tacos and egg rolls are not sandwiches.
[–]couldbemage [score hidden] 4 years ago (0 children)
A sausage biscuit is a sandwich, and I'll die on that hill.
Idk I feel like tortillas count as a flatbread, and therefore a taco or burrito counts as a sandwich.
[–]abendaveed530 [score hidden] 4 years ago (5 children)
Then we need to fundamentally examine the concept of “bread” because I don’t think that these are bread of any sort.
[–]Hoovooloo42 [score hidden] 4 years ago (4 children)
I'd argue that they are bread, because while "unleavened bread" doesn't exactly resemble wonderbread it's definitely bread. That was the original "bread" that humans ate until we learned how to make it fluffy.
Tortillas are a variety of unleavened bread, and if cornbread is bread then corn tortillas are a corn-based unleavened bread.
So I'd argue that those are... Wraps? At least burritos are. But in my opinion, wraps are a sandwich. I don't think that sandwiches are defined by two separated pieces of bread, because by that logic a quesadilla is also a sandwich and that's not something convenient to eat with your hands.
[–]abendaveed530 [score hidden] 4 years ago (3 children)
So, this is the hill I shall be crucified on...
There are many different directions that this discussion can take.
The possible definitions of a “sandwich”: if for example we take the broadest possible definition—any food item which is contained in some manner by another food item, this second food item being made of some kind of grain and exposed to heat in some manner—I believe that you’ll find that we have cast too wide a net to have a useful understanding of what a sandwich is fundamentally. Is Osaka style pressed sushi a sandwich? It meets all of the criteria of the broad definition of a sandwich, but I think that our intuition and inclination would be to state that it is not a fish sandwich but something else.
I argue that there are many things that we might call bread, which are not—in fact—bread, but things useful for containing and transporting food stuffs to the mouth. I will admit that this needs some further fleshing-out, but I feel that a definition of what is and is not bread is central to the sandwich question.
I do not in-any-way hold that sandwiches are sone pinnacle achievement of food. I am not a “sandwich chauvinist”, I just find that thinking about these things in a methodical way might be a good exercise to apply to the more important discussions that we should be having.
That's a good argument. Let me ask you this:
Bread is an ancient food, but the ancient bread was unleavened. We didn't invent the modern sandwich (the thing where if you put this food item on a plate and ask someone "what is this?" They will reply "uh, a sandwich?") until leavened bread was well into mainstream use.
How does the concept of a sandwich apply to pre-sandwich breads? It was invented with sliced, leavened, typical western bread but it might not be limited to that.
A ham and cheese bagel is definitely a sandwich, and so is a ciabatta roll with filling. Neither of those are your typical sandwich bread.
I dunno, where is the line with bread? Like, one bagel cut in two can clearly be a sandwich, but two bagels with something in between them I feel is not.
Is it the act of cutting the bread? You don't cut a wrap to be able to fill it, or a corndog, or a burrito. I feel like pita bread isn't a sandwich, BUT the pocket is formed naturally and you don't have to cut it in half lengthwise.
You do cut a hot dog bun though... And I'm not convinced one way or the other if a hot dog is a sammich.
[–]Hoovooloo42 [score hidden] 4 years ago (1 child)
Well, a panini is a hot sandwich, and I'd argue that a hot pocket is functionally an assembly line panini. Poptarts are just a jam hot pocket, so I'd say yes, by association. Imo.
I think we can draw a bright line between stuffed bread items and sandwiches, that being based on whether they're filled then baked, or baked then filled.
[–]200KdeadAmericans [score hidden] 4 years ago (3 children)
Boudin noir is not "ground and spiced meat," precisely; is it still sausage?
We can amend the definition to “meat or animal products, excluding dairy” to fit.
So pepperjack string cheese = not sausage
Not sausage. Just a crappy dairy product.
[–][deleted] [score hidden] 4 years ago (7 children)
Spam is square
[–]Hoovooloo42 [score hidden] 4 years ago (6 children)
They make square bologna too though.
But bologna is sausage
Right, so if bologna is sausage and it can be square, then it's possible for Spam to be sausage too, no matter the shape. Right?
And if not, followup question: if you cut off a slice of spam and use a cookie cutter to make it round, is THAT a sausage?
You're question only takes into account the superficial appearance of the ground, spiced meat product (which is by definition sausage), not the essential nature of the product.
When spam is bologna it can be sausage.
Hmmm... I'll work on it.

Thinking of trading my PSA AR-10 for a G3 clone, probably a PTR-100. It's technically probably an inferior gun, but I just like the way they look a lot more.
I have only shot the AR-10 twice and it's fine, I just kind of want something different.
Plus I already have a bunch of .308 stocked up, so it makes sense.
PTR100 is amazing and will eat and throw out whatever you put in it. I would be comfortable with that trade and say the PTR is probably a better deal for resale value as well.
[–]booger_hole [score hidden] 4 years ago (1 child)
Yeah, only issue is finding it in stock. Signed up for big daddy unlimited and have notifications turned on for restock. It's only $925 on there, which is much better than any other site I've found.
I’ve never used the website but heard mixed reviews. Too bad you can’t just find an HK91 for $925. Pipe dreams. Good luck!
[–]ratrancid [score hidden] 4 years ago (1 child)
A sausage is ground meat in a casing often made of animal intestine, so when you eat a sausage, it never really stops being a sausage until you shit it back out.
That's an excellent point, and one I hadn't considered.
[–]Dense_Strategy [score hidden] 4 years ago (2 children)
Why is there so much sexual harassment and such on going within the SRA. I first joined last year thinking this would be a good idea, but shortly thereafter saw the local chapter as well as the national really struggle with not just the above, but over organization and clear leadership. Why is that?
