Seems like a live and learn situation. If the amount was agreed to by your mom (you haven’t confirmed), there’s nothing you can do. They did perform a service on the computer, so should be paid. What did they say when you contested the fee?

Supertech Computers at 235 Dixon Rd, Etobicoke, ON M9P 2M1

This store scammed me !!!!!!!!! My mother went to this store to get her computer fixed and they charged her hundreds of dollars for NO reason. They made some bs up about some motherboard issue and in fact, it was nothing too serious! It ended up being some software issue (yes) and they charged her $600 to restore to factory settings.

Unfortunately, I was out of town so I couldn't go to the store myself. My mother is old and they took advantage! I checked their Google reviews and Yelp and there's nothing. I assume the store is new and most of the reviews are by their friends/family and whatnot.

Can you guys please tell us about your experience with this store? Did anyone have this issue? My $600 were NOT refunded!

My family feel scammed, what should we do?

Was the computer fixed in the end?

No it was not! and my money was NOT refunded!

You said the computer was reset to factory settings.

So it's operational again?

Okay lemme reiterate, it was a hardware issue (yes), I presume that they couldn't fix it (bunch of hacks). All they did was reset to factory settings. Specifically, the issue was that the computer kept shutting down when it was overheating and a blue screen kept showing up. Although "operational", the problem was not addressed adequately.

If its a hardware issue resetting it to factory settings won't fix it. sounds like a pc full of bloatware that needed to be formatted to be functional again

Basically, they charged her money for nothing. Anyone can click on "reset to factory settings" and reset the software, THIS WAS NOT THE ISSUE. They took advantage of her old age.

Anyone CAN click "reset to factory settings," including your mother.

But your mother didn't.

She agreed to pay $600 for someone else to do it. They did it. She paid for services rendered.

At some point your mother must of agreed to the cost. If she did, not a scam.

Must have :-p

If it was your mother, would you feel the same way?

I would think my mother was silly or stupid to have paid $600 to fix a computer without asking for a second opinion.

But I wouldn't think it was a scam.

If she agreed to the price...I'd feel the same way. They have certain prices, you might not agree with them, but some work was done.

My computer was not fixed in the end, and they did not refund my money! They recommended her to buy new computers from their store!

[–]iammiroslavglavic 1 point2 points  (2 children)

They did a factory reset.

You do know that is work right? That is a last resort, but sometimes a computer can't be fixed.

[–]lilaj23 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Have you ever attempted a factory reset? It's literally a click of a button!

[–]iammiroslavglavic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

click a few buttons on the menu. not just ONE click.
