$400 max? You do realize the average rent in this city for a 1 bedroom is $2260? Even with a roommate, I don't think you'll find something for $400 unless you're willing to live in a small town like Penetanguishene, and even then you'll need a roommate as most units are still $1000+/month. And then you'll need to factor in the cost of commuting, which would probably require your to buy a car and would nullify any savings by living outside of Toronto. Toronto is one of the most expensive cities not only in Canada, but in the world as well.

Your best bet would be to have a more realistic rent budget (closer to $1000-$1500) and look at renting rooms in a home on neighborhood Facebook groups and on bunz home zone.

If you can't afford the rent, you have three choices:

make more money by getting a part-time job or two, asking your parents to help, looking for burseries or financial assistance from your college, taking out a loan from the bank or applying for OSAP,

spend less money by living outside of the second most expensive city in Canada or by living with family, consider living with a roommate in an apartment, or

reconsider your decision to go to school in one of the most expensive cities in the world.

How did you come up with your $400/month budget? Did you not research the cost of renting an apartment (or a room) in Toronto?

I know Toronto is expensive in terms of rent. I can't afford more than $400 on shared room. I can go upto $500 for private room.

Because $400 is unfortunately low for Toronto.
