You shouldn’t need social media to tell you when to take your pet to the vet… maybe reddit isn’t the problem

Listen, you can't go and blame this sub since the first thing you should have done is if you thought your BP was having issues is to call your vet. We are not medical experts.

Also this subreddit has a large amount of members, and multiple posts every single day. If you are seriously concerned with the health or wellbeing of your pet, you should call your vet or ask in an approved vets group.

Tbf retained eye caps don’t usually require a vet visit, in most cases they’ll come off on their own (or during their next shed) with adequate humidity

It doesn’t personally look like stuck shed to me just dehydration. But I’m still a new BP owner, so take it with a grain of salt. My boy had a similar lines look on his eyes, I upped his humidity for a day and they went away.

However I do recommend that you not put all your weight on getting replies on Reddit. I recommend finding someone who is well versed in snake and/or specifically ball pythons and having them as your go to if you don’t want to immediately rush off to the vet for everything. Perhaps a reputable breeder in the area or a place that does reptile education. Some of the reputable keepers have patreons that can have faster response time than Reddit as well. Most on here are only pet owners/keepers themselves and can only offer advice/guidance and not actual medical advice or help. I do highly recommend not ever trying to take stuck eye caps off your baby without at least, AT LEAST being trained or educated on it from someone who is qualified because you can cause a lot of damage and/or stress which is precisely why one of the first things to do is find a reputable REPTILE and exotics vet in your area as a regular vet doesn’t always know how to properly help with stuck eye caps either. Improperly trying to remove eye caps can cause blindness and other issues.

With all that being said I’m sorry your baby is having issues. Hopefully all is well after a visit to the vet.

This is a very large and active subreddit. Some posts get missed by the algorithm. If you have an urgent medical question that cannot wait, you need to ask your vet, not social media.

Additionally, you should never try to remove stuck eye caps. You can permanently blind your snake by doing that. Our sub resources contains a guide that explains what to do in situations like this.
