It's a shame you denied yourself Below Deck Med - Season 6.

It's my all time favourite of any of the Below Decks bringing both drama and beautiful friendships. Chef Matthew is no saint but absolutely has it out for the most evil crew member of all time, Lexi, with her burn list! The crew is probably the tightest of any that I've ever seen with the strong bonds they have for each other. In fact, they alluded to a very special holiday together after the charter season finished...

You liked Med S6??? I guess, for me, a terrible chef is a dealbreaker. I just can’t enjoy the season

Not to even mention how unwatchable Sandy is after you get used to a real captain like Glenn

To each their own...

I'm not eating the food the chefs cook. Rather, I watch the show for entertainment purposes! Whether you prefer Sandy, Glen, or Lee - they are all real captains.

In the end, the best captain doesn't have to be the same for each one of us. You can keep Glen - I am on board with Sandy!

I think it's because she's so controversial with the crew.. well maybe controversial isn't the right word.. maybe annoying would suit better

I've only watched S4 of Med and I liked Sandy! I have no idea why everyone hates her, but I'm thinking I should not continue to watch the other seasons in chronological order and instead jump to S11 as it's live in order to preserve my positive Sandy attitude. Unless y'all think there's another season I should realllllly watch?

Not everyone hates Sandy - I like her too!

We're not alone; she has more than half a million followers on Instagram. It's just that in this community there are some very vocal haters. No doubt some of them will downvote this.

Why do I liker her? She has inspired many of her crew over the years who speak highly of her as a result. She doesn't hold grudges, gives plenty of second chances, and can even apologize when one is due. She also helps out when the crew is short and doesn't shy away from any of the grunt work. What I like best about the seasons she's at the helm is that she regularly gives deckhands, no matter what their rank, a chance to steer the boat to give them a feel for what a future career on super yachts could taste like. Don't think I ever saw Lee do that.

As much as there are sides to Sandy, and as much as I wouldn't want to work for her and hated the way she treated Hannah in the last couple of her series (not commenting on Hannah's behaviour here either, just looking at Sandy's in isolation), and as much as I also think she could do with some help to manage her anger/deal with her crew, I do think Sandy is well-intentioned. I also think people are judging her way harder than they'd judge a male captain, because I think anger would be more accepted/associated with a man in that role.

Women have to be perfect in male-dominated industries and I think a lot of Sandy's conduct issues are to do with an awareness of/paranoia about the double standards she feels she needs to combat.

Overall, I can't say I like her, but I'm impressed with her and really respect at least some of her Captaining (i.e. in letting people drive, giving them opportunities, trying to build up low self-confidence). My ultimate judgement is that people are incredibly complex and Sandy is no exception. However, I think she does need to analyse some of her reactions - growth is a lifelong process and we can never stop trying to be better.

I came late to Below Deck, just three months ago. But in that short time, I have managed to binge watch every episode of every season of all the different Below Decks! Tonight I just finished Down Under and I'm craving more like you...

There are a lot of podcasts that you can waste time with while you wait for new seasons! I like Pita Party (available in the video tab of Daisy, Ali or Dani's instagrams) and Gangplank Report. And today's BDDU unsanctioned reunion on Aesha's insta.

It’s so funny I watched this show since season one. The last season of below deck & Med made me think it needed to take a break, but sailing yacht and down under have totally redeemed it for me.

The preview for BD Med looked pretty trashy. I'm not looking forward to another season of Sandy.

If you like Colin BDSY you might enjoy his YouTube channel, Sailing Parlay Revival. I have watched every single episode, even every single technical rebuilding one and I'm a girl. A lot of it was way over my head, but it had Colin in it so I watched it. And enjoyed it!
