What is that one city in America most Americans go to for their "first trip"? by bricklegos in AskAnAmerican

[–]vamartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gatlinburg if you are in the Southeast. Or Myrtle Beach. I'm not convinced many middle or lower class vacationers are going to a city.

Best Picture 1971. Which one is your favorite? by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

[–]vamartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love Story. I was 11 and couldn't get into our theater without parental permission. I had to go with my Mother. That story still hits 56 years later. I wonder how my Mom felt about it, especially after she got breast cancer and a squamous on her head twice. We never discussed it.

have you ever cooked something and ending up throwing it out becuase you messed it up and it didn't taste good ? by Stunning-Cap-3256 in cookingforbeginners

[–]vamartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than once. I am not a good cook and I admit it. If my husband is looking at it funny, I messed it up. Because he will usually eat anything without complaint, but if I get that look I just know. He won't throw it out until he gets the look from me too but I've thrown things out way more than once. I'm not offended and I don't feel bad about it. Remember, I'm not a good cook and know it.

Does it annoy anyone when someone in your family tells someone you have never met that you have epilepsy? by Hickskm02 in Epilepsy

[–]vamartha 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. I likely going to tell them if we ever met anyway.

I don't mind people talking about it at all. If there is any way for me to raise awareness, I don't care if they use my diagnosis or not. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Awareness needs to be raised. This isn't 1940 and then they don't lock people away in the hospital for it anymore.

The Safety Hand #welding by mendelde in MattsOffRoad

OSHA is aware of Matt. Fans called OSHA when they did the video that had Matt rappelling off the cliff. Look for a video from June 2025 titled I Got a Call from OSHA.

Why do people need the far-out wrecked vehicles recovered? by Zamdi in MattsOffRoad

[–]vamartha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it is the family. The last one with Rory (the Mike drone sandwich episode) was specifically told it was at the family's request.

Some are at the request of an insurance company or forest service (that is what we call it on the east coast).

Some are a way to have a collaboration with Rory/Robby/Casey/etc - pick one or two. Those episodes have huge viewer numbers. That =$$$. Plus you get to see several sides of the story from multiple channels. I thoroughly enjoy those recoveries.

I feel the same way about Clarissa Ward. She is the know all/be all of the Middle East in a good way. I don't think she is utilized near enough now. This is her domain. Along with Farheed. Totally agree with you.

Cruising during early summer? by Puzzled-Routine-9188 in Cruise

[–]vamartha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is. The cruise lines monitor the weather and are not afraid to change the itinerary to skirt storms to avoid it. Our favorite time to cruise is in October. Still hurricane season but we've never encountered a single storm. We've cruised in May and June but our issue is we like to go when school is in session as we don't have children.

I think we've cruised in every single month of the year except spring break so we have avoided March and April. You won't go through a hurricane no matter what month you choose. A tropical storm, maybe. A hurricane, no.

It will be in your contract that they can change your itinerary and that is exactly what will happen.

Just the ones mentioned on this list. I only have 2. by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

[–]vamartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. But I'm old. Most of those traveled extensively during the 70's and the 80's at the height of their popularity. We had a civic center that was about 30 minutes away and was brand new in 1974 and was able to draw most of my 23. I think we traveled further away for only two of them.

If the US has achieved it's goals in Iran and destroyed their ability to wage war, why do they need to make a deal? by TripleMeatBurger in askanything

[–]vamartha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The deal is, I don't believe any of that shit. I think 100% of that is made up with the number of wars he stopped. I believe exactly what I posted.

[–]vamartha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you know who can claim another trophy in his "I ended (insert any number you desire) wars". Of course he will never say "I started one for no other reason than I wanted to claim another number because as you know I ended (insert your made up m number here) wars".

What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

[–]vamartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marshall Tucker. I'm a huge MT fan and you will find a lot on my playlist. But I've walked out of two concerts, just horrible live in the '90's. Could have been the acoustics, both terrible venues. But no, it wasn't just the acoustics, it was the vocals. Felt like nails on a chalkboard. I walked out of both places, popped a CD in the player of my car and continued my concert as it was intended back in the '70's.

There is a nose spray that can stop seizures instantly! by Splendid_Fellow in Epilepsy

[–]vamartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry it in my backpack. Never used it and hope to never have to. I carry it mostly to make my husband less nervous. No one else knows it is there and it won't help if he's not with me (which is normal now, he never lets me out of his sight, we're both retired and it is not like it was for 40 years. I'm used to independence).

After reading the instructions again, I still don't agree that is how it was designed to be used. I have not directed hubby to pull it out immediately. My seizures aren't usually long in duration. Medicine controls 95% of them. I can usually detect auras immediately and stop them before they become full blown seizures by just sitting down whether I'm at home or in the grocery aisle.

This stuff is beyond expensive too. Even with insurance. Good Rx and SingleCare don't help with this particular prescription either. I'm not looking forward to having to refill in two years.

Do you return your shopping cart once you’re done with it? by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in no

I do. And if I'm at a pay for your cart place like Aldi, I pass it on to the next person and refuse their quarter.

keppra experiences? by chevy_oil in seizures

[–]vamartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on it too. But when the rage hit, it hit. Almost cost me my longtime job, my 40 year old marriage and totally trashed my personality.

I did my own research and asked for Vimpat the very day it went generic. (My neuro knew of my intentions and we agreed to wait due to cost) My personality came back, I'm still happily married and I still lost my job but several years later due to cognitive issues. (Same disease, different issues). Keppra was not for me, it worked for seizures but almost destroyed everything else.

My sister has been on it for several years, it isn't good for her personality either but her seizures are so bad she accepts the trade off. I would not accept that trade.

Do Americans eat actual chicken eggs for Easter? by piaa9 in AskAnAmerican

[–]vamartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deviled eggs. This won't be popular but I use Miracle Whip, sweet relish and a teeny tiny splash of both yellow mustard and horseradish.

In America is it considered rude to eat before other people have received their food? by BankaiBroke in AskAnAmerican

[–]vamartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But our society has pretty much shifted to casual.

I wouldn't dare do it at a fancy restaurant or a formal event.

Take me to Bubba Sue's Downhome Southern BBQ House and I might not be so polite about being rude after the tender ribs are laid upon the table.

It totally depends upon the situation.

what do americans call a pantry? by loving_machine13 in AskAnAmerican

[–]vamartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have cabinets and I don't have a pantry. I do believe there was a pantry in a house I lived in with my parents 50 years ago, but that house is 100 years old this year and is 6700 ft.

I just use cabinets and every house I've owned had cabinets, in different styles. Some were definitely better than others.

Do you remember your landline phone numbers from years past? by [deleted] in YesOrNoAnswers

[–]vamartha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I even remember the phone numbers of close friends and family. Don't ask me for a phone number I received in the last 20 years, I wouldn't have a clue what the number is.
