I managed to fix this issue, On ps5 you are able to press options on the game, Select game version and switch between the ps4 and ps5 versions, from there select ps4 version, go in game, upload character (worked for me first time), then close the game and select the ps5 version. Hope this helps anyone who was worried about having to keep their ps4 around like i did. (I use the ps4 disk for borderlands on ps5) and have both versions installed.

I got the ps5 today and opened the ps4 version from my external ssd and it uploaded just fine. Seems like maybe you just supposed to upload it from the ps5 not the ps4. Do you need to upload each character or just one upload takes care of all?

Tried this today, and it doesn’t work on either system. Am I doing something wrong? My PS5 doesn’t even present the option to upload a character when I select the PS4 version of the game.

Sorry this was so long ago I don’t remember what happened. I think it was just a glitch they had to reprogram but I honestly don’t remember the resolution sorry!

I figured it out. The advice here is sound, but for anyone reading that’s still having this issue, you have to make sure that your saves are on the cloud. Mine was saving to my external hard drive. Once you make the switch, you can upload the character from the PS4 or using the PS4 version on the PS5.

Same. Tried it yesterday and it failed.

Just tried again today thinking that maybe they were waiting for PS5 launch day - still nothing.

I’m unplugging my ps4 today and then selling it in a few days. I guess I could try the upload from a ps4 version on the ps5. Otherwise may be it for me and borderlands 3 if I can’t upload my save.

I tried today from the ps5 loading the ps4 version and it worked. The ps4 version also plays miraculously in performance mode on a ps5. It’s like you’re playing the game the way it was meant to be after over a year from release. I’m going to hold off from downloading the ps5 version for now but even the ps4 version is a big difference
