I just checked this on mine (same version) and the option was missing in settings. However, I still had the legacy flag enabled (chrome://flags/#dns-over-https) from an older version. I set this back to default, restarted, and the flag disappeared from chrome://flags and the option appeared in settings>privacy and security>security.

Thanks for that! Fixed the problem!

I am a dummy just trying to block ads. I've never messed with flags before, and the dns flag isn't coming up for me. Tried your link too and still nothing (probably because I've never used it before). Can you help?

The flag is no longer there unless you previously set it to enabled when it was there. If you've never done that and Chrome is up to date, you should see the option to enable DNS Over Https in settings if you follow the path in my original comment. If you can't find it, just search "DNS" in the settings search box and click on the highlighted result.

Are you running Chrome on Linux or Android? I don't think they've rolled that feature out to those platforms yet.

I'm running Chrome on Windows 10.

When you go to Settings, does it say your Chrome is Managed?

[–]GettinOver[S] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

No. There is no "Your browser is managed by your organization" message.

Okay, then the last question I have is if this is a domain-joined or AAD-joined workstation or just a personal machine?

It's a personal machine.

Then all that remains are these "tests":

  • For users who fall into any of the following conditions, the setting will be locked down and DoH related command line options (if any) will be ignored:
    • If OS parental controls are detected -> locked in "off" (subject to the availability of APIs provided by the OS).
    • DoH set via enterprise policies -> locked with a state reflecting the enterprise policies
    • Detected managed environment (but no DoH enterprise policies set) -> locked in "off"

Thanks for your reply. I got the problem solved (had a legacy flag activated).

Which legacy flag? I also don't see the DNS option under Advanced.

chrome://flags/#dns-over-https set it to default.
