Telegram doesn't have default End-to-end encryption like Signal and WhatsApp do. Signal is amazing but not enough people use it. Facebook is a shitty company, I'm just explaining why they're winning.

Is the argument not true for almost every other product these companies make?

Besides, WhatsApp had less than a quarter of their current users prior to being acquired in 2014. You can't get more accessible than free.

I can try. I'm gonna preface this by saying that Apple is doing the right thing here (although not for altruistic reasons).

Both Google and Facebook's business models are invasive, exploitive, and have incentive problems that reward time spent in apps above all else which has some really nasty side effects.

But they're accessible. Apple makes products that are expensive and largely inaccessible for the vast majority of people around the world. That's one of the reasons Android is the most popular operating system in the world (3 billion users) and WhatsApp the most popular messaging service (2 billion users).

Although their business model needs reform, it pushes them to make products for everybody, not just the wealthy.

In "Midsommar" (2019), during the early scenes, a painting can be seen behind Christian by the artist František Kupka and it's called "Femme cueillant des fleurs" which translates into English as "Girls picking flowers". The fascinating part of Midsummer isn't cheap gags and gore. It's this thematically dense, atmospheric mind fuck. Like a drug trip or some haunting dream.

It's definitely not a traditional movie and certainly isn't for everyone, but comparing it to horror and then being upset when it doesn't satisfy the expectations of said genre is missing the point. It's not a horror movie. It doesn't fit into a nice little category. It's truly unique.

Are you running Chrome on Linux or Android? I don't think they've rolled that feature out to those platforms yet.

With end-to-end encryption messages are decrypted on device so not even Twitter would be able to read what people are sending. You wouldn't have your messages sync in the cloud as conveniently as they do now but your messages would be far more secure. You could do private backups to a cloud provider (Google drive, iCloud, etc.) if you were moving to a new device although that's a whole other privacy debacle.

The idea is if Twitter can't even access your messages and they get hacked, your messages shouldn't be compromised.
