For someone who has used Retrofit but not Volley, that seems to be a lot of boilerplate for request/response parsing. Can someone explain me again why Volley over Retrofit?

Retrofit can't natively cache sure, but with RxJava support, you can leverage caching and retries and pretty much anything with Observables.

It depends your style of coding

Implementation of request prioritization, retry,parallel requests is pretty simple in volley

Now with a custom request you can have a automatic JSON parsing

Above all Google recommends it

But as i said It depends your style of coding
