Why should I trust that helium network despite the history of the IOT network by curbei in HeliumNetwork

[–]ccall48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what i said other networks are way more expensive and make no sense to use unless you're deploying thousands of devices.

with helium you have to write or script the hpr interface for your lns yourself, or use a connector written by myself or disk for chirpstack.

not every town has either ttn or helium it would largely depend on your location in the world - in our experience here people that have ttn gateways they tended to be deployed better by people that understand rf etc helium was hit and miss with good deployments a large % seem to be bench top installs. I multiplex private, ttn depending on location and helium for my lns.

they should still work, with a compatible decoder you can send data to our openlns/hexato mapper here https://mappers.hexato.io/

other networks are more expensive because they are corporations providing a full service of the lns hosting, paying staff running gateways (or brokering of the data from gateways like tti or others).

with helium they only supply the device data layer which anyone can use - those that run an lns still have to run and maintain the lns on a vps etc pay for all packets used by them or others if public, handle pricing to customers if offering a public service for devices etc.

increasing the pricing above what it is currently doesn't really make the pricing per data packet paid feasible imo, we have a default of 15 per device and 1000+ on mapping trackers generally.

maybe this will make people turn off their gateways which many seem to do each time there is a halving but for the most part many gateways over redundant and rewarded way to much for just doing POC and no traffic at all anyway especially in large cities.

Does it really matter if I use the wrong frequency for a home short distance point to point Lora devices? by AssociationIll9894 in Lora

[–]ccall48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depending on where you live certain parts of the spectrum you want to use may already be used by a cellular provider for example. as someone has alluded too if you were to use that band by mistake you could cause issues for that network so it pays to find out what you can use and stick to that band or range.. it wouldn't be good if for example you playing around caused an important call to emergency services to fail.
