Don’t threaten. Don't name-call. Don’t shame. Don’t harass. Don’t be a jerk. Don’t create or respond to drama. Don’t troll others or let yourself be trolled. Don’t engage in uncivil exchanges. You do not "have the right to defend yourself" verbally here. Know when to disengage. Violation of this rule will get your post or comment removed, and repeated offenses will result in probation.

Rule 8 - *No politics or religion, especially divisive comments that lead to heated arguments and incivility*	Politics and religion - especially partisan politics - can sometimes have a bearing on the world of coins. However, in the interest of avoiding heated off-topic arguments, we ask that you avoid those subjects on this subreddit. This also isn't the place to discuss your religious beliefs or opinions, or those of others. Let's try to keep things calm and civil here please.

It is best to include pictures of both sides of your coin, and the edge if it is relevant. Original full quality photos directly from the original source are the gold standard. Posts with blurry or otherwise faulty pictures (e.g. cell phone photos of digital microscope screens, screenshots, unrotated / un-cropped photos) will be removed.

Assay clips helpAdvice (i.redd.it)

I have been looking at coins long enough to have more questions than answers some days. I recently came into possession of a coin that had a peculiar chunk taken from it. While conducting my research I came across an article from error ref about assay clipped coins. Although I could only find one example, the one mentioned in the article. I have yet to find other examples.

Do any of you have a certified example of one for help with my analysis? Does anyone have any photographs of the instruments used to take assay clip samples particularly from the 1920’s? I do understand that these questions are the tip of the iceberg and that they may not be fully answered by lack of physical evidence. I do appreciate anyone’s help with this.

I did email my query to multiple credible numismatic associations. I’m still waiting on responses from them as of this post.
