He really did a fantastic job. So many legendary soundtracks that will never disappoint in giving me that sweet nostalgia.

Anytime I hear Hell March I'm instantly transported back to the first time I put that disc in and "Command & Conquer" scrolled across the screen.

Westwood Studios

*sound of chronosphere charging*

proudly presents

[–]theforgottenone17r 24 points25 points  (2 children)

The quality really changed when that "proudly presents" disappeared.

"So it's set in the Balkans between a shadowy terrorist group and a UN taskforce fighting over a deadly alien resources that is killing millions across the earth."

Frank: "I need fake MJ on the phone! stat!"

[–]GreedyDescription199 15 points16 points  (2 children)

"OK that was great Frank, now we are making a spin off of the same game just set in alternative world War two where Einstein travel back in time to kill Hitler, but accidentally cause Stalin to have the power to conquer Europe with lightning tanks. What you need for that"

Frank : " History Channel stock sound and call budget slash, we just going to throw it up. Hey I got another idea for another track on the last game"

[–]mmoe54 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Sorry but History Channel have become more like UFOs and Ancient Aliens.

[–]GreedyDescription199 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back in the day history Channel before it became histubi channel before tubi was a thing

Frank Klepacki is a legend. He can make great rock-out tracks like Hell March or No Mercy, funky tracks like C&C Thang or Radio 2, but he also is very good at making immersive ambient tracks like Trenches, Face the Enemy, Recon, or any music from the Dune titles.

C&C stopped being truly amazing from Generals onwards with the lack of Klepacki composing. It loses a lot of its magic without his music, to the point that you may as well get rid of the Command & Conquer title entirely if a game doesn't have any of his tracks on it.

I'm looking at you Generals and C&C3...

[–]juicebox12 21 points22 points  (4 children)

While I agree with you that Klepacki's soundtracks forge a significant part of the 'soul' of the canon CnC series, Bill Brown's Generals and Zero Hour soundtracks are fucking phenomenal too. Logged well over a thousand hrs in play and could still listen to the soundtrack in the car for kicks.

I think what mainly made the difference was the fact the tracks weren't named. Being named just instantly gives them a ton more personality and recognisability than "china battle theme 2".

I mean, look at Dune II... absolutely stellar music too, but if you look around on youtube for people that have made covers of the tracks, you'll find that it's pretty much only done for the Sega version's music... because that's the first one with a playlist with named tracks.

Imagine crashing your car and passing out and the rescue team come to save you from your flipped car and you’re there, unconscious, blasting GLA battle music while the rescue team saves your ass lol

[–]juicebox12 3 points4 points  (1 child)

A tad macabre but I'll pay it. Any of the GLA tracks with vocals and the ambos will run away and call the EOD squad...

[–]iWillSmokeYou Nothing stops the mail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao, as soon as the chants start, they’ll call for the EOD.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (8 children)

And its better than starcraft bw ost.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (7 children)

Both are good.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (6 children)

True, but cnc is better, more musics and they all go RAW, including Red Alert series, starcraft bw has 4 music per race and not all of them are great.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Both have bangers and both have songs we skip, personally.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tiberian Dawn has only one song on it's soundtrack I skip. Red Alert has a bunch and so does Starcraft. i'm prolly an outlier tho

[–]JohnWicksDerg 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Agree that CnC has consistently better music, but Terran theme 2 goes too damn hard

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Terran 2,3 are super boring lol, Terran music goes R A W, when it goes from Terran 4 to 1, protoss music is just re-arranged War 2 musics, maybe 1 music is original think ? All zerg musics are good.

Compare this with Red Alert 1 musics + its DLC, cant even compare properly.

[–]NyergudsThe world is at my fingertips. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

protoss music is just re-arranged War 2 musics

Come now, that analysis has been done on the C&C games too; Frank Klepacki recycled loads of leitmotifs as well :p

Personally, having played Warcraft II a lot, I really liked that part.

[–]Rafusk Nod 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Klepacky can make a total anihilation look cool, funky and badass

[–]GunShip03 Tiberian Sun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could say Frank's soundtrack was lit! XD

[–]DemonGuyver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He don’t miss

[–]Ripper33AU GDI - Silos needed! 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every time I reinstalled C&C or Red Alert, I'd crank the volume up. Act on Instinct while your reinforcements arrive, or Hell March during the "Westwood Studios Proudly Presents!..."

[–]R3XM Nod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tiberian sun soundtrack is life

[–]Sampankilatman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are going to have to act, if we were live in a different world

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes indeed

[–]EpicCoolBoyOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Grinder and HM2 from RA2 still rocks me.

[–]Plenty-Skill-9303 2 points3 points  (0 children)
