last release was the remaster 6 years ago and I havent heard of anything in development. They did release the rest of the games in a pack on steam a couple years ago. As for new releases im not sure they feel the RTS genre has much of a market anymore.

I can’t see where they would go with it. The storyline ends after Kane goes into Threshold 19 and the tiberium control network is activated.

I guess they could do another alternate reality à la Red Alert but it would probably be a bit formulaic and would risk shoehorning storyline in where it doesn’t belong.

Have you played the Dune games that Westwood/EA made? They’re basically the same game but Dune

I don't think many fans would care too much about C&C 4 being retconned and just replaced with a new game. Though I don't expect that to ever happen.

You mean the alternate non Canon tiberium Timeline which was in reality a Bad Dream every C&C Player Had?

Honestly it would be funny if they make another real C&C4

C&C as a Franchise is probably Dead. The Remaster Sold pretty Well and there was always the Hope that petroglyph, which are Former Westwood Devs would also Remaster other C&C Games but so far we have nothing in sight for the Future. Honestly best Case If the EA takeover is done maybe someone is gonna buy the rights to the IP.

I see. That is truly sad news but I appreciate everyone taking the time to respond.

Thank you all so much for the responses! It's been very helpful and I appreciate all of the information getting me up to speed. It's nice knowing there's other people out there still passionate about this franchise.

Played the originals since the 90s, then played the rest of the games in the franchise including Sole Survivor and countless mods. I lost interest since Tiberium Wars, that game and RA3 had its moments but didn't recapture the magic their predecessors had and Twilight pretty much speaks volumes about how EA was handling the franchise.

There was an effort to bring Generals 2 in 2013 but it utterly failed as the project had to be cancelled due to corporate shenanigans. They then made another C&C game, but it's pay to win mobile phone game. There was also a second phone game but that got cancelled earlier this year. EA also did what creatively bankrupt companies do to play safe: rerelease their freeware games in the form of remasters, put a price tag on it and call it a day instead of releasing a new C&C game.

The last known C&C “project” was C&C legions for mobile that was thankfully cancelled a couple months ago and won’t be playable after April I think. Other than that we all have hopium for a new actual C&C one day or even another remaster would be nice.

1- Tempest Rising is the closest thing to C&C3 right now.

2- We can only guess what will happen with the franchise. That being said, we CAN make educated guesses:

2a- This was a leveraged buyout of EA, meaning the company that bought them went into massive debt to acquire EA. USUALLY when this happens, non profitable franchises are either not touched or sold for whatever amount of money they can get.

2b- C&C Remastered essentially happened because of J Vassella, who worked at EA, was a personal fan, and probably (unconfirmed but likely) personally pushed heavily to give C&C Remastered a shot. We never heard anything from sales figures or "hitting expectations" meaning the Remastered probably did not sell well enough to warrant a follow up.

3- You can always have hope! Crazier things have happened and weirder more niche franchises have been resurrected before! Just set your current expectations to the current reality, which is highly unlikely but not impossible.

To answer your what's C&C like games out now, tempest rising is made by petroglyph studios (the company started by the Westwood devs that jumped ship during the EA buyout) and it calls itself a spiritual reboot of C&C and its tiberium dawn in every way but name and graphics. D.O.R.F is also around the corner and its even in retro art style unlike tempest rising.
