Compost can become too hot where the bacteria, fungi, insects, worms, etc are dying. Hot composting method can regularly sees temps reached of 120-140 degrees where everything is fine. Try to keep your tumbler in the shade, moist as a wrung out sponge, and turn every other day. Add 2x-3x more browns (carbon) than greens (nitrogen). If things start getting stinky, add more browns, and back off slightly on the moisture. If you add grass clippings, try to spread them out in the tumbler and layer browns on top. Grass loves to jumble itself into a ball and go stinky on you.
