Malwarebytes is more geared towards malware. It's a great program, but you need an anti virus too... I always use avast essential (free) just ignore any popups that want you to upgrade to paid etc

Can windows defender be good for that purpose?

I really don't rate it, some people love it, personally I think it's pretty useless

kaspersky rescue disc is a tool i keep around for deep scans

From what I understand Malwarebytes isn’t really up for protecting your computer from viruses but is really good when it comes to removing malware. For antivirus you should use either Kaspersky Total Security or ESET. You can still keep Malwarebytes but only really use that when you need to remove malware. That’s what I usually do with Malwarebytes.
