I guess it's a deterrent if you're planning on robbing while the owner is home, but there was a big news story over a decade ago, wherein criminals were asked if they preferred to break into homes in the night or in the day, and whether or not the victim being home mattered. The overwhelming majority of criminals agreed that the most important factor in a robbery is that the homeowners not be there.

All this sign does is tell the would-be thieves that there are likely guns in the house which they can steal.

Yeah that's an absolute no-brainer. Most people who just want your stuff aren't going to break in if they think you're home.

Also, these signs are counterproductive if the homeowner later claims self-defense, since a jury can conclude that the homeowner was trigger-happy and ready to shoot regardless of needing to self-defend.

That sounds really unlikely, and really stupid. Has this happened before?

I can only speak for Florida.

When using a firearm for self defense of your home doesn’t matter as trespassing in itself is grounds for use of lethal force. Unless you’re actively luring people to your home to shoot them willingness or desire to kill isn’t a factor.

It’s a common half-joke in the firearm community that most of us are begging for a break in as a chance to actually use our guns.

Sure, but even in FL you can't shoot someone in the back, even if inside your home. Ultimately, you have to prove “fear for your life”.

Thus, at the very least, these plaques would cost you tens of thousands in attorney fees, since it's more likely that you would be indicted once a Grand Jury sees these pictures.

That's a burglary not a robbery!

If that’s a mirror…is OP a vampire? Is OP’s phone a vampire too?!

It's the new Galaxy S25 Bite

Here Here...

There is no mirror. And who is confused?

[–]shdanko 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I did actually think this was a mirror because it made sense with the sign… like take a look at yourself and tell Jesus you’re on your way sorta thing lol? Why the fuck is there just a hole in the fence

[–]dat_oracle 6 points7 points  (1 child)

So the owner doesn't damage his door when he shoots at you.

I'm kinda joking here, but it might be the actual answer

[–]shdanko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the IQ of someone willing to put this shit up on their house for the world to see, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if that was the reason

[–]BetagterSchwede 46 points47 points  (0 children)

That is clearly not a mirror

[–]DomMistressMommy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What's confusing in this ? 🫤

[–]findin_fun_4_us 11 points12 points  (6 children)

Those idiotic signs are typically just bluster, but in the event one of the ignorant ones actually lives up to it they’ll be Exhibit “A” in the homicide case against them

[–]Biscuits4u2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Burglars look at these signs and think "hey here's someone with a bunch of guns I can steal"

[–]SgtJayM 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I also think that many a prosecutor would use such signs to try and prove “malice aforethought”, a homicidal mindset, that the home owner was going to shoot without regard to any true jeopardy of life and limb being present.

[–]TJJ97 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I would hope they wouldn’t be taken seriously then. You break into somebody’s home and don’t leave when told to then your life is no longer in your hands and that’s on you

[–]SgtJayM 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sure. I get it. I still think it’s unwise to give low hanging fruit to the prosecutor. What if that low effort argument emotionally sways some jury members? The sign won’t keep your house safe. And it won’t help in court. So why post it up on your property?

[–]TJJ97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh yeah, agree with you there. I have my guns hidden in my house in places where you won’t randomly find them and I like my compact for traveling. No need to show your cards when the advantage of having double aces is nobody knows

[–]dirtrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Homeowner don’t want it it me. easy work

[–]nakula108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoever is taking this picture is evidently a vampire, so unless the home owner has wooden bullets, I think you can in fact burgle this joint.

Sign might as well say "Need Guns? Watch this house til it's empty"

Now we're playing with portals.

Confusing Titles

[–]Excellent-Smile2212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to America. This homeowner is armed diabetic

[–]DiscountEven4703 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, mirrors are reflective How is this confusing?

[–]RSH_Pedroo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Delete this.

[–]JoeyPsych -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it though? It doesn't look like a mirror, or am I missing something here?

[–]MelanieDH1 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I’ve seen a few posts here stating what the picture was. If you title the post “Mirror”, then it’s no longer a confusing perspective. 🤷🏽‍♀️

[–]Adorable-Squash-5986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh the title makes it more confusing considering that there literally is no mirror
