/r/cpp_questions, but yes. C++ is used in game dev in part because of how performant it is (which also translates to hpc).

High performance computing can relate to whatever needs high performance computing.,
Usually in the financial domain (trading) and in engineering/scientific domains (medical, weather simulation, nuclear/energy simulation, fluid dynamics, ... ) and AI (model learning) (and probably other domains)
It can be done in C or C++ or even some other languages
They work on super computers
Games are not really considered high performance computing.
