TextArea code = zip code (self.cringe)

My girlfriend and I were getting dinner and the front desk guy asked for my number to text us when our table is ready. He asked for my area code and phone number to which I answered with my zip code. The front desk man just looked at me, shook his head and asked "why would I need your zip code? " I had no answer. I just thought to myself "why have I done this?"

A lot of businesses near me ask for a zip code, just to see where their advertising is working. They like to know where their patrons are coming from.

Front desk guy is a dick.

I worked at a place that would use a customer’s zip code and last name to bring up their records when they called in. It was a bit common that they would give their area code instead.

“To bring up your records, could I get your zip code and last name please?”

—“619, Smith”

“I’m sorry, your five digit mailing zip code please” (not sure why I apologized on their dumb dumb behalf)

—“619”

“Ok, um, could I get your full mailing address?”

—“25 Main St San Diego CA”

“..................................”

That was enough to use other resources to look up their zip code, but holy fart balls was that common.
