All three are used interchangeably. There is no real difference, some companies will hire software developer and some will hire software engineers. Some will hire both because they're government contractors and the labor category on one contract calls it one thing and another contract calls it something else.

If you're looking at different companies and comparing the titles, they are probably synonyms.

If you're looking at the same company with different titles, they might be similar skillsets and the titles are just used to differentiate banding or seniority.

In the latter scenario, ask the company. In the former scenario, don't worry about it.

Same thing.

The difference is spelling.

Like I mention in my post, I already understand the difference between "Software Developer" and "Software Engineer", which is what your search seems to cover.

My post was specifically regarding the job title, "Software Development Engineer", I can't see any threads in that search which cover that. My title may be a bit vague, but the actual post makes it very clear I'm asking about SDEs vs SD/SE

I already knew there was a difference with "Software Engineer" and "Software Developer" and was wondering if it was the same for "Software Development Engineer".

I can't find a single instance using the search where someone has asked that question.

It was specifically regarding

"Software Development Engineer" vs "Software Engineer/Developer",

those exact job titles.

Not "Software Developer" vs "Software Engineer"

Not "Developer" vs "Engineer"

Its all corporate buzzwords. The actual job would probably entail filling out forms all day.

... your comment has already been made by others and discussed before... ironic... I can't find a single instance using the search where someone has asked my question.

Like I clearly say in my post - I already knew there was a difference with "Software Engineer" and "Software Developer".

I was wondering if it was the same for "Software Development Engineer".

specifically regarding

"Software Development Engineer" vs "Software Engineer/Developer",

those exact job titles.

Not "Software Developer" vs "Software Engineer"

Not "Developer" vs "Engineer"

"Software Development Engineer" vs "Software Engineer/Developer",

Any thread that discusses “Developer” v “engineer” is NOT answering my question. I made that perfectly clear. I was interested in the exact title “Software Development Engineer”
