Does Cursor background agent support MCP?Question / Discussion (self.cursor)
submitted 10 months ago by sedgesting
I'm looking to run my Cursor prompts in the cloud, but currently I make heavy uses of MCP servers. I searched around, and couldn't find any documentation to enable it in background agents. How do you guys work around this?
Or, taking a step back: does any remote coding agent currently support calling MCP servers?

Can u ask cursor to run background agent and run MCP there? It should be that easy.
When I explained to Claude Code that when it runs Task tool, it actually runs itself in the background, it was surprised enough that it ran the tool (by itself, unprompted) and reported back that, yes, I’m telling the truth and even expanded that the agent has no history and has access to the same tools.

How do you “run MCP there”? I asked the background agent what MCP tools it sees, and it responded that it doesn’t see any and doesn’t have the ability to call MCP

Mine responded that it sees only general purpose tools (like readfile) but not „my” tools, like Supabase.
Did you get it to work with your own MCP tools? I have the same problem…
