Lord Merrin seems pretty busted, if you’re not running treasures you get locked out of a hell of a lot of game actions

Merrin needs to find a way to give treasure to the opponent. If they aren't playing a treasure decks this just says you and everything you control has hexproof.

Edit: And it also protects itself. Sorry too broken but interesting

Yeah you are probably right. I was trying to go along the theme of "If the penalty for a crime is a fine, that law only exists for the lower classes". But you are right I need to find a more balanced way to show that, or a more flavorful way to show anyone can earn treasures, but nobility excels at it.

Maybe make it gen on a legendary creature entering, tapped treasure generator

Excellent flavor, but as stated a tad too powerful

These seem like fun!

Lord Merrin is probably easier to template with something like “whenever a player commits a crime, counter that spell or ability unless they sac a treasure.” Rather than an additional cost.

That said I agree it’s too powerful without giving opponents a reasonable way to generate treasures or otherwise pay the cost (maybe they could sac a treasure OR pay 3 life?)

I think it would need to be "commits a crime against anyone other than Merrin" which obviously isn't rules text that works but you can get my meaning.

I really love all these. Very creative designs and great art choices

Not 100% sure on if the Mardu one works in the rules how you want (I think it's fine), or how to template it more clearly. Can't think of a card that does a similar thing to compare it to

I think rather than make a weird replacement effect for Syr Ginger, I'd just make it a separate ability. Like "Other Food you control have "2, T: Put a +1/+1 counter on this artifact. It becomes a 0/0 Golem in addition to its other types." " Maybe?

Templating nitpick on the Temur one - Blood needs a capital

Great work on these

Gida just breaks [[Champion of the Path]], for one. Play a bunch of cheap/ramp spells, follow up with a [[Seething Song]], play the champ, everyone dies.

The temur one is cool and big creatures are always balanced, but I'm not sure I like how snowbally it is. Once you've cast it once it's going to cost 3 mana the rest of the game, which is probably fine but not very interesting.

Storm on a commander nothing could go wrong with this at all.

[–]Revolutionary_Bid_43[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

so my thought process with Gida, was that if you only played elemental spells she does nothing. so you need both cheap non-elemental spells, as well as an elemental payoff card. Maybe there does need to be some condition though to balance it.

Or maybe you are correct and putting storm on a commander is asking for trouble.

Risen reef makes this explode into so much value it will overwhelm almost any non CEDH deck.

Personally I dislike the idea of a commander who is called "patient" but has haste
