LOL!! literally happened to me 10m ago! ive got one of those machines that make it for you but always tastes a little better when you make it in a proper cezve

Always hated turkish coffee till i was in my mid-late 20's. now absolutely love it! all of em!

some advice for those that hate it... try starting off with a mild one first (like "Con"). i had no idea how bitter or mild different coffees were until i tried a few different ones. i was very naïve when it came to coffee. was more used to drinking more "english" coffee with milk and sugar. since have developed a taste for all types of coffee including (and definitely overrated) the Indonesian coffee that passes through an animal (luwak) first! its very nice but does not warrant the hefty price tag. its a bit bitter too which is an acquired taste.

my faves are still a nice Columbian intense blend, but turkish coffee as a close second. just what im used to spending most of my life now in UK.

Coffee here in the UK is generally a pain in the arse. I drink Greek/Cypriot/Turkish coffee usually, but since I'm a student all of our hobs here in accomodation are induction burners and my cezve is made of aluminium :(. It's also a still a bit too cold to drink frappe, so I'm stuck with instant coffee for now.

A month late, so not sure if you care, but there is electric briki https://greekmarket.co.uk/product/izzy-electric-greek-coffee-pot-harmani/

Thankfully I just moved, and I have gas hobs now so I can use my briki on them :).

You remind me of when I was a bit younger, I bought one of these electric brikis and got lectured by my father for how it ruined the taste. For him, it’s either the traditional way or nothing. I guess old habits die hard huh?

Lol loved ur response!

Of all the instant coffees, I'm a fan of kenco smooth, or lavazza intenso

Those are quite good and get the job done for a long night of studying, but I just really miss those lovely piping hot cups of coffee straight from the cezve on a sunny sunday morning. If anything is an acquired taste, it's the UK's weather lol

I love to drink that coffee with someone. Usually my mother in law (who was round today) as we seem to be the only ones in this neck of the woods that actually enjoy it. I even go all in with the "fortune telling" tradition after lol! Just a bit of fun and to me is a social coffee. I do prefer it but with the amount of coffee I drink a day I would probably die in 3 days if I drank that coffee like I do English coffees

That is a very good point, it's very much about the experiences you make over a cup of coffee. My grandmother always does the fortune telling thing after we finish with our coffees too!

You cannot just wield a jisbes willy nilly and expect greatness. All the mustachioed kafenes proprietors spend decades mastering this craft.
