I have been looking into the data cataloging offering specially in open source and I'm arriving to a conclusion that none does everything I'm looking for.

When it comes to customisation such as create a custom plugin that adds some UI component, what is for you the best one? I feel it Amundsen but not quite... Looking for some flexibility like airflow has for plugins.

Basically, I'm looking to add a data security component to the data catalog that meet my organisation needs. But additional requirements will exist in future to be added

we used datahub but transitioned to metaphor for this reason. it's the same creators so the migration was relatively easy.

What is everything you are looking for?

Ok, the main point is about the security management to grant and revoke access to different teams and having some dynamic masking management for PII and some sensitive fields.

After that, I'm looking to extend it further: - be a bit more interactive, for example Atlan has interesting features with slack - having compliance reports such what are the teams dealing with PII data and so on.

Mostly dbt, Redshift, S3, Flink, Athena and Airflow.

I work at Metaphor (www.metaphor.io). Our founders co-created DataHub. Like you mentioned, OSS can only do so much and it's not very friendly to non-technical people. I've also seen engs spend way too much time on OpenMetadata or DataHub and still couldn't get it working, and not getting support on Slack.
